Enjoying Coffee with Nestle® Coffee-mate® Creamers

Today I’m sharing a special experience with you, along with a chance to win a $100 Visa gift card (instructions on how to enter are given at the end of this post).

When I was younger I swore I’d never drink coffee. I hated the taste. Even in college my friends would encourage me to drink coffee to stay awake at night to study. I tried to join in, really I did, dumping loads of sugar and cream into the cup to make it palatable. Ugh … I just couldn’t wrap my taste buds around the coffee bean even though I loved the fragrance of fresh ground beans.

But as I grew older my palate matured and a lot of foods that were once offensive to me in my youth became quite appealing (asparagus, for one). When I took a desk job I found I needed a shot of something to wake me up at the computer, so I begrudgingly tried the rich coffee bean once again.

Enjoying Italian Roast Coffee

Luckily, I discovered Nestle® Coffee-mate® flavored creamers. They are hands down my favorite and I find I don’t need any sugar when using them. I now look forward to my creamy Cup o’ Joe every morning. When I found out there are Coffee-mate® Girls Scouts® creamers, you could knock me over with a feather. I scooped up Girl Scouts® Thin Mints® flavor when I saw it in the dairy case and grabbed the powdered version of Girl Scouts® Caramel & Coconut flavor. Yum!

Coffee-mate® Girl Scouts® Creamers

Hubby likes coffee too so we ground some coffee beans and took our drinks out to the front porch to enjoy a morning of coffee klatching with the new creamers.  The conversation inevitably turned to when I was a young girl and a Girl Scout.

On the summer porch with coffee and cream

Girl Scouts are known for their resourcefulness and as an alumna, I try to be a smart cookie by using that same spirit and initiative to come up with useful tips and tricks in the kitchen. Since we’re talking about coffee, one of my favorite life hacks is to use coffee grounds in our garden. My grandmother always used them to fertilize her roses and the idea stuck with me.

Using Coffee Grounds - Fertilize the Garden

Another favorite life hack of mine is for drinking iced coffee. To keep your coffee from getting watered down, make ice cubes from coffee. I find this to be a much better option than using normal ice cubes.

Finally, since I don’t like to drink my coffee black, an obvious solution to that problem is to enjoy a steaming cup with Coffee-mate® Girl Scouts® creamers. That way I get to enjoy the tasty goodness of Girl Scout Cookies® at any time. Since I’m a chocolate lover, Girl Scouts® Thin Mints® is my current favorite!

How about you? Were you ever a Girl Scout?

When my own daughters were old enough to join, I became a troop leader. To learn more about all the fun experiences girls and volunteers have at Girl Scouts, visit www.girlscouts.org/join.

  1. My mother was a coffee drinker. She had a cup every morning and a decaf cup every night as a ‘treat’. I never drank coffee until after she passed away and it is one of those silly things that I often think about ~ I wish I had had one cup of coffee with her. That being said, I do love a good cup with cream. I haven’t tried the Coffee Mate Girl Scout creamers…yet but I plan on grocery shopping today or tomorrow and I am going to pick one up. Thanks for sharing your story and your lovely photos. p.s. One of my favorite life hacks also involves coffee grounds ~ I make a recycled coffee ground and coconut oil hand scrub for cleaning my hands after gardening.

  2. Thin Mints-flavored creamer?? That must taste like heaven! Thanks for sharing because I had no idea this existed! Definitely purchasing! 🙂 As for life hacks, similar to your coffee grounds: I’ve used banana peels for the roses too! Learned it somewhere along the way and it helps! Just sort of compost them into the ground around the base of the plants. 🙂

  3. Oh my gosh! I drink my coffee black. . But occasionally I love to have a treat in it. I never knew these existed. .. But boy am I looking for them. I adore girl Scott cookies, and I can’t think of anything more delicious than that in my coffee.

  4. Coffee is definitely one of my treats (guilty pleasures )! I enjoy a big mug every morning and one in the afternoon, hubby does too! We love the coffee mate creamers and I was laughing when I saw this post because we just bought the girl scout samosa flavored creamer to try! We buy the creamer in the larger size (usually Vanilla) but thought it would be fun to try this!
    Thanks for the opportunity! karen….

  5. My favorite life hack is I bring a pool noodle when we travel and put it under the fitted sheet of the hotel bed, to keep my daughter from falling out.

  6. My husband and I love the Vanilla and Caramel creamers-they are like a special treat to sit on our patio and sip away on our coffee. And that is my life hack–take time to just enjoy all the days you are given. Life goes too fast, and when you get a little older you realize it more and more. Just take time each day to say Thank you God for the gift of my beautiful life…..

  7. I love a good cup of coffee especially as the weather gets cooler. Wow, Girl Scout Cookie creamer. I am definitely going to try that.

  8. My favorite hack to make extra crispy bacon with less fat is to flip over a microwaveable bowl and put it on a plate. Cover the bowl with paper towels and then lay the bacon over the bowl and top with another paper towel. As the bacon cooks the grease falls into the plate!

  9. My favorite life hacks are to use baking soda to whiten my teeth and to use dryer sheets in dresser drawers.

  10. Hmm, I dont drink coffee but Thin Mint screamer sounds yummy.

Favorite hack is baking bacon in my oven — so easy!

  11. One of my favorite life hacks is Bar Keeper’s Friend (cleaning supply most used on pots and pans in the kitchen) to get off rust stains in a toilet bowl. Hate that hard water deposit. 🙂 Thanks for the opportunity!

  12. We love coffee at our house too. Two life hacks: This year we have been saving coffee grounds and spreading them under our Hydrangea and it is working! My husband likes to make his own cold coffee to go delight. I literally have to buy tons of coffeemate for this drink of his. Empty water bottle, use a funnel to add diet sugar of choice of one to two packets depending on the size of bottle (real sugar can be used of course), one to two scoops Folgers Freeze-Dried Coffee, then just fill up the bottle with coffeemate, put on the cap and shake to mix. Take it to go. It tastes like it was made at your expensive coffee shop. I need to do a post about it.

  13. I loved your post about coffee, because I remember feeling the exact same way. It took me a while to get used to the taste of coffee, but now I am an avid coffee drinker and I love drinking coffee. Sometimes I need to control my intake somewhat, but there is nothing better that your first quiet cup in the morning getting ready. Or on a cold winter morning. Love the smell, love the taste, love exploring new flavors too.

  14. My family has always been coffee drinkers, but I have to have a bit of creamer in mine. Hazelnut now. Might try the Girl Scout flavors. Nothing better than fresh gound coffee in the morning.

  15. I dont know if I have a favorite hack, but I love to vacuum. With four dogs I have not choice.
I have been drinking coffee since we were little kids in my grandmothers house. She would pour it into the saucer to cool if off and we would sip it. Been a coffee drinker all my life I guess.
When my great nephew was little we would sit at the counter and have coffee. I even bought him his own little coffee cup. His was mostly sugar and milk, but it is a nice memory.
At church the Sister is from Italy, so you know there is some coffee drinking there. She has a special coffee maker that makes real strong coffee (love it) and that is where we have French Vanilla.
Nice to be in good company of coffee drinkers..
    ps
going to use my grounds for my roses and hydrangeas…thanks for the tip

  16. I didn’t know what a life hack was, glad you explained. We use our dehumidifier water to water the plants outside. We have a well and we don’t waste any water.
I started drinking coffee late in life. Never black, yuck. I love using the creamers. I can use any coffee as long as I use the creamer. They make everything taste better.

  17. I love girl scout cookies. Can’t wait to try the creamer. I was a girl scout and I was my daughter’s troop leader for several years.
I mix water and rubbing alcohol together and freeze to make ice packs to use when needed.

I love your blog. Thank you for the giveaway.

  18. I keep a box of latex gloves in my pantry. They are very reasonably priced for a large box. I grab a pair and wear them whenever I handle raw meat or other messy job.

  19. We put leftover morning coffee in a mason jar & refrigerate it for “iced coffee” in the late afternoon on these hot Florida days.

  20. i like to use yogurt and cucumber all over my face and eyes at night instead of an expensive moisturizer. it really works just as well!!! xoxo

  21. I like to make and freeze meals ahead of time so I can just thaw them out and heat them up when I don’t have time to prepare a meal.

  22. My husband loved coffee and always had a little crime in it. I use the old dryer sheet to wipe clean the dryer vent.

  23. My favorite life hack is laying out all the breakfast items the night before, makes mornings so much simpler and my children complain less 😉

  24. I like the smell of coffee sometimes, but I never had a desire to drink it. It tastes so bitter, and adding loads of sugar into it doesn’t go well with me. My girlfriend, however, loves it…especially with flavored creamers. It’s a real treat for her. As far as a life hack goes…We would like to buy a house. There are the two of us and five cats, so we were considering over 1600 square footage to accommodate us all, as well as a sewing room and a paper/other craft room and a bedroom. Well, I got to thinking about this. It’s expensive to heat, and it takes time to clean, so why not repurpose our rooms. A living room doesn’t have to be a living room, so my life hack is to purpose the rooms in our future house closer to what we need. We don’t NEED a dining room, but we do need a studio. A small living room could be the sewing room. Since bedrooms are usually smaller, we could use one of them for a TV room/living room. We don’t entertain often, so we can accommodate guests if and when they come instead of reserving a space for them IF they show up. I am an adult, and I can do what I want with MY space! So there!

  25. I re purpose everything – old chairs, tables, picture frames, etc… there is really no reason not to take the time to fix something up and re use it.

  26. For a closet organizer we took an old book case and placed it in the center of the closet…..using one side with a place to hang long clothes and the other side has 2 poles for shirts and slacks…etc. The book shelve itself is used for sweaters t- shirts…shoes etc….closet top shelf for jeans and sweatshirts…..it has worked out well.

  27. My life hack is using freezer bags to freeze all of my homemade goods..they take less room in the freezer than a container and I re-use them for everything..from toiletries when we go camping to storing beauty products

  28. Two stain removal hacks : Remove that spilled red wine stain by pouring white wine on it while still wet. It disappears!
You can remove wood stain from your hands with cheese. Yep, seriously – rub a piece of cheese (I used cheddar) on you hands and that wood stain comes right off!

  29. I love coffee! My favorite hack is using dryers sheets in drawers and under the mattress to keep things smelling fresh.

  30. A friend turned me on to these Cofeemate creamers several years ago. When I would add them to my coffee my husband would tease me about how sweet I made my coffee. Then one day I got him to try the French Vanilla, my current fav, well guess what? He won’t drink his coffee without! I even carry the little packets in my purse now!

  32. I freeze recipe size amounts of ingredients like berries or nuts in sandwich bags and put those in a larger zip lock bag. When I’m ready to bake, I take out the pre-measured portions that are all ready to go.

  33. If I’m cutting a really strong raw onion, I stick a piece of bread in my mouth. The bread absorbs the odors that make you tear up.

  34. Coconut oil is my favorite life hack right now. I have been using it for so many things! My favorite is just using it to grease my pans instead of using the fake stuff in the can!

  35. I like to use dryer sheets in clothes drawers and linen cupboards to keep things smelling fresh.

  36. I wasn’t a Girl Scout but when my daughters were old enough to join I became a troop leader. And then later my daughters became troop leaders.

    1. I guess my favorite hack is nothing new. I like to cook in large batches and freeze the leftovers in individual containers for lunches.

  37. One of my favorites is the use of rubber bands to keep doors from latching. A saving grace with small children around.

  38. A great thing to make a chip bag clip out of that lasts a lot longer than those cheap chip clips you can buy is to use binder clips from your office supplies! The really big ones work great!

  39. i’ve never actually tried it but I’ve heard that if you mix a tablespoon of vanilla extract into a gallon of paint it helps with the paint odor!

  40. When I bake a sheet cake or brownies, I cut them into squares, wrap each one and freeze them. When ready for a treat, thaw, frost and enjoy.

  41. I think that your pictures are fabulous, a cut above all else!

I’d like to know more about your coffee-drinking history, what is your typical day like for you with a cup of coffee?
