A Southampton Cottage, Unfitted Kitchens, and More: Friday Finds

A couple of things have happened in the past month. I have two new grandbabies! Henry James (my son’s second child) and Agnes Wren (my daughter’s fourth child). My daughter had three boys and desperately wanted a girl – and she finally got her wish just five days ago. I’m heading over to her house next week for a few days to help out. She’s definitely going to have her hands full for a while. But I know why you’re really here – you want to see this week’s treasures. I think you’ll like what I found!

I’m glad to see that the unfitted kitchen is growing in popularity. I’ve only owned one home that didn’t have an unfitted kitchen, and I didn’t like it. I guess I’m more eclectic than cookie cutter, but I like the old-timey feeling I get when cooking in a less than perfect space.

Are you a fan of the English country decorating style? Interior Design Info has great tips for getting the English country look in your home. The fall season is a great time for cozying up your house with this decorating style.

Here’s a super cute fall craft that looks truly easy to make. So even if you’re not artsy, you can make this adorable acorn felt garland for very little money. The links to the products in the post are outdated, but I found the felt balls and the acorn caps on Etsy. If you want to be even more budget-friendly, pick up the acorn caps off the ground. The trees are shedding them right now.

Would you add a plate rack in your kitchen? I’ve often thought about adding this feature in my home. I’m just not sure about dust collecting on the plates though. If you already have one, let me know your experience with it in the comments below.

I always like to include at least one home tour here at Friday Finds. Today’s tour is a charming Southampton cottage featured in Homes and Gardens magazine.

We’re in the midst of apple picking season so why not put those apples to good use? Try my apple cake with caramel sauce recipe. It’s so good!

And now it’s time to head into the weekend. The temps are gonna be good both Saturday and Sunday so I’m looking forward to more time outside! Enjoy your weekend!

  2. So charming, light and bright. I love those deep window sills!. I decided on an un-fitted kitchen five years ago when I remodeled my grandparent’s farmhouse. It just seemed right for the age and era of the home. I love it, and don’t miss upper cabinets at all Congratulations and enjoy your sweet grandchildren!

  6. Another great Friday finds, thanks so much. Oh, how I love babies and you enjoy them while you can cause they grow way too fast. Have a great time next week with your daughter.

  7. New “granbabies”! How wonderful, Jennifer!! Thanks for sharing the great homes, recipe and ideas. I have always, always wanted a plate rack. They are sooo classic and timeless. Alas, it probably won’t happen because of space in this downsized home. But I really enjoyed the ones that you shared. 😇
