A Walking Tour of Historic Galena

Uncategorized October 30, 2012

Our Fall colors here in Illinois peaked last weekend and now the color is fading and leaves are falling. So when I looked back through my photos of our recent trip to Galena, I enjoyed seeing the changing leaves on the trees. So without further adieu, here’s the remaining photos of the beautiful, historic homes in this town where Ulysses S. Grant once lived.

Isn’t this the perfect autumn home? The creamy flowers and gate left ajar … it just draws you in.

If you saw my previous post on Galena, you know that a lot of the homes here are brick … and old.
And hey! I knew I liked this house for a reason. They’re Bears fans! (Check out the fence.)

Fall colors brushed on a quaint Victorian cottage make a perfect complement to the surrounding landscape.

A grand Victorian boasts a cute little patch of pumpkins on the front porch.

Don’t you want to climb to the top of that tower? I can only imagine the views on this hillside.

If this were my house, my bedroom would take residence in the windowed room on the second floor.
Just imagine the dreamy moonlight streaming in as you nod off,
with the sun’s warm rays to wake you in the morning.

Here’s another white home with green shutters. Love that big ole porch, the urns, and Adirondack chairs.

And ya know, houses don’t have to be big to be beautiful. This one’s a charmer!

Do you like blue houses? I think this one is just stunning!

A darling bay window and white wicker chairs add to its charm.

What do you think of the door color? Would you paint your front door a bold color like this?

I absolutely adore the windows on this home! Reminds me of a stage coach inn.

This home is tucked a bit off the road on the edge of a slope.
You can see an old home with a mansard roof in the background.

Here’s a big vine with a house attached to it!
Great front porch … but I’d cut down those evergreens in front for a better view.
Maybe they prefer the privacy it affords from passersby (ie gawkers) like me.

I love this shade of blue with the red brick and the crooked urn is charming.

And finally, the last home on our walking tour of Galena.
That spacious wrap around porch would be great for outdoor entertaining.

The double front door is just gorgeous!!ย Hope you enjoyed our little walk around Galena, Illinois!ย Perhaps another trip to Galena at Christmastime is in order.
