About 3 months ago I started a bottle collection. Some of the bottles I’ve left in their original state, and some I’ve been prettying up with paint and embellishments. This past Saturday I visited Cracker Jax in Dekalb and scored two finds. One was a creamy matelasse coverlet and another was this adorable little perfume bottle.
It’s missing the lid but I don’t care. It has an adorable booklet tied with a little pink cord.
It still has a little bit of perfume in it and smells wonderful in the room.
I did a little digging for background information on Friendship’s Garden perfume.
which got its start in 1934 at the height of the depression. Shulton also produced Old Spice for men.
Here’s a pic I found on the Internet that shows the bottle with its lid and filled with perfume.
A bottle like this sells for around $25 on Ebay and other sites.
This is a vintage ad selling “The Remembrance Box” filled with Friendship’s Gardens products.
In addition to the toilet water, there are bath salts and soap in the vintage fragrance.
I’d love to find this Remembrance Box somewhere.
This bottle is pretty tiny … it’s smaller than a china cup.
I love the little tag on the bottle.
Even the inside of the booklet is sweet and says …
“Primrose betokens Early Youth.
Violet betokens Modesty.
Heliotrope betokens Admiration.
Jasmine betokens Amiability.”
Empty bottles with a lid fetch between $5 and $10.
I paid $1.25 for this one. I love the scent that the little bit of perfume leaves in the room.
It’s not a grand bottle, but I just love its little details.
How sweet. I love it. Thanks for sharing, liz
Jennifer,
Lovely bottles. I just viewed your cottage, so sweet. I love the back porch area. Reminds me of my Granny’s, long ago 🙂 Are you in Illinois. So am I. We are downstate, but I think you might live close to my relation in St. Charles?
Come visit when you get a chance.
Sometimes the smallest finds give us the most joy! Your little perfume bottle is adorable. And you can’t beat the price, either!
I also have that same little bottle missing its lid….but lucky you to have the little booklet!!! That is just so sweet!!! Will have to take a pic of my little collection of little bottles!!! hugs…cleo
What a charming bottle! I love the sweet little tag, too! Thanks so much for stopping by my Bachman’s post!
I love to find out the history behind an object and that was fun learning about your perfume bottle; it’s cute too.
Isn’t it wonderful how much joy $1.25 can bring? Love the story behind the perfume.
What a wonderful find, such a sweet little bottle, love the tag too!

I am sooo with you, I just love vintage bottles. My brother lives in a 1924 house in downtown Orlando and he occasionally will dig one up when he is planting….Love them!

I love perfume bottles 🙂 Brings back memories of my grandmother’s collection and all the times I would sit at her vanity table, holding a bottle in my hands, and she would say, “Just a dab behind the ears.” Thank you for sharing your lovely treasure!
I can’t wait to see what your house will look like in a few months 🙂
I love this sweet perfume bottle and it looks like you got a really good deal on it!
Thanks for the inspiration.
blessings,
karianne
What a great find! Such a charming bottle. Have a great week. Susan
Great find! I have this Remembrance Box.
It is a very cute indeed I have one of my own. It is still filled with perfume and its never been opened. I have the original string but no booklet attached. I do have the original label around the neck of the bottle what does that make it worse at that point I wonder? I could never sell it or open it . It belonged to my husband’s grandmother.
