Creative Ways to Decorate with Vintage Books: Cozy Saturday
Vintage books are more than just a glimpse into the past; they’re a versatile design element that can infuse your space with character and charm. Whether stacked as decorative accents, arranged on open shelving, or repurposed into unique centerpieces, these timeless treasures offer endless possibilities for adding cozy warmth and personality to your home.
I’ve always been a fan of vintage books and have collected several over the years. They bring instant soul to any room. I choose them for color, spine design, and cover design. And if it happens to be a book I enjoyed reading, all the better!
Wouldn’t you love to have a cozy library with a wonderful leather chair and a range of books from which to choose? If you have a lot of books, you can even arrange them by topic – romance, mystery, horror, you name it.
This is what I need in my house – a hallway lined with bookshelves to store them all. In addition to vintage and antique books, I’ve also got quite a selection of cook books and decorating books. It’s hard to part with any of them.
When you decorate with vintage books, consider grouping them by color. I’ve always been attracted to earth tone book covers. I think they add instant cozy appeal to any space.
Pair them with other vintage items like an old mantel clock or a small antique suitcase.

Look at the pretty spines and covers of the small books cradled in a galvanized platter atop a coffee table. When you visit second hand stores, choose books in colors and patterns that match your room. The artwork on older books is always pretty amazing. Use books to add height to items in a vignette.
I love the pairing of old artwork and books on this country hutch.

Vintage books can lend cozy charm even in lighter, cooler colors. This set of shelves has a wonderful coastal vibe.
And finally, how about a wall papered in old book pages? Some people don’t like the idea of deconstructing a book, but if the cover is in poor shape, why not?
I created a knife holder using books and had mixed reviews of it. Some people loved it, others thought it was sacrilege to use the books in such a manner. And then there were those who didn’t think it was very sanitary. To each his own – that’s what makes the world go round, right?
Enjoy your weekend!
