Explore an Amazing English Home: Arts and Craft Style
An English home renovation by Field Day Studio aimed to craft a warm and inviting living space filled with cozy, comfortable areas. The design pays homage to its arts and crafts heritage, celebrating the artisanal charm and unique character of this remarkable home.
Let’s start the tour in the light, bright kitchen with a rustic work island that can take stand up to daily baking and cooking chores. This is the perfect working kitchen where everything is functional and attractive at the same time.
Pale green cabinets pair unexpectedly with a bright yellow stove. Dark gray slate tile flooring grounds the space while creamy colored paneling and trim lend an air of light-heartedness. If you’re wondering what the Giudecca sign stands for, it’s an island in the Venetian lagoon just off the coast of northern Italy.
This is the type of kitchen I yearn for. Void of perfect cabinets, the unfit kitchen comes together through design elements that create the functionality of a modern kitchen.
Note how the sink skirt fabric matches the pattern from the Giudecca sign.
The living room is what you’d expect to see in an older English home. The fireplace mantel matches the wood of the ceiling beams. Patterned, upholstered furniture pairs with a patterned Oriental rug. Surfaces are layered like pillows on the couch with books and decorative elements on the rattan coffee table.
Here’s another view of the living room that reveals a dark patterned sofa beneath a portrait oil painting. I think the English are bolder in their choice of patterns and colors, which I appreciate. It might not be everyone’s style, but the artistry and thoughtfulness is unique.
Yesterday I posted about decorating with books to create a cozy vibe. Today’s English home enjoys a beautiful library with spacious windows overlooking the gardens.
The moody family room features dark walls and furniture. A burnt orange lampshade adds an energetic pop of color. The area rug is a softer shade of rust to complement the deep blue. A large mullioned window keeps the room from feeling heavy.
The English love their gardens so it’s no surprise to find a sunroom in this beautiful home, complete with an upholstered, patterned chair.
A cozy powder room reveals vertical subway tiles and a floral-patterned floor (love the floor!). Ticking stripes are seen on the soft window shade, while a tiny sink fits perfectly in the small space.
This is an English home so it only seems proper that English ivy wallpaper makes an appearance in the entryway.
A soft English bedroom features a vintage fireplace and box window with a built-in seat. A single bird print adorns the wall.
The walk-in closet features a large built-in armoire along one wall.
A gorgeous blue claw foot tub graces the master bathroom with a checkerboard floor. What do you think of the art work over the tub?

The “artwork” over the tub? Oh, is THAT what that is? haha
The nice poster over the tub? The German wokists would say: “Zigeuner? Sagt man nicht! Das ist rassistisch!”
I really loved everything about this house. The colors throughout are so warm. I could see myself curling up in that green velvet chair and reading a book in that fabulous library!
