My Visit to Floor & Decor in Chicago
Sometime between now and Christmas we plan to paint our family room a new color, but that’s not all. I want to create an accent wall to add depth and interest to the space – meaning I’d like to add a wood texture treatment or similar to one wall. The family room wall with no windows and our large architectural print is the wall I’d like to treat.
For this project, I felt like a little professional expertise would be helpful. I chose Floor & Decor for my project because they have such a wide selection of wall treatment options and they work with you to make the best choice. I used their easy-to-use online tools to schedule a consultation and design appointment with Maribel, a designer at the Countryside store. I uploaded pictures of my family room along with dimensions and a brief explanation of my vision for the room.
When I arrived for my appointment, I found Maribel waiting for me at the store’s design center. She reviewed my photos with me, asked me questions to determine the look and feel I wanted to achieve, and assured me there were several design options for my budget.
I was truly amazed at all the options available to me and had to snap some photos of their pretty displays, many of which were designed by Maribel. I didn’t want to forget anything that caught my eye.
Do these feather prints look familiar? They’re similar to the ones I added in my dining room. The white chair rail adds dimension to the wood wall treatment – love this space!
Here’s a wood accent wall treatment that’s a different shade if looking for a lighter look. This would look really good in our family room, although I would probably install it in a horizontal pattern.
Floor & Decor is divided into product sections such as tile, wood, stone and deco, making it easier (and faster) to find what you need. There’s a little something for every room. I fell in love with this cool farmhouse sink, but had to stay focused on accent wall ideas for the family room.
Here’s a beautiful antique-looking tile that reminds me of old ceiling tins.
The flooring under this cozy table has a pretty blue-gray tint to it. An advantage to shopping Floor & Decor is that most product is in stock so you don’t have to wait for an order to come in. They also offer 14-day free storage, which is a plus.
Seeing all the displays made me start thinking about other rooms in the house. I was truly amazed at all the choices available in price ranges to suit any budget. Not to mention their easy financing plan that makes it more tempting to do more projects besides my family room accent wall.
I had so much fun walking through the Floor & Decor store with Maribel and she was patient with all my questions. A lot of the displays were created by her – she has a great eye for design!
One of the last options Maribel showed me was this dimensional wall treatment that has more flexibility to it than flat pieces of wood or tile. In our old house, flexibility is key since our walls aren’t straight and some have a bit of waviness to them.
You can install this in a herringbone pattern as shown here, or place all pieces horizontally, which is what I would do for our family room accent wall.
I’m anxious to add an accent wall in our family room and would love to get it done before Christmas.
