Painted Furniture in the Bathroom

When it comes to decorating a room, one thing always leads to another. Always. On a whim a couple weekends ago, I painted my downstairs claw foot bathtub. Once I did that, I no longer liked the color of the cabinets in the room so that led to the next task … painted furniture. Isn’t that the way it always goes? Now I’m thinking the flooring needs an update (I think I’ll settle for new rugs for now).

Bathroom Cabinet was 2 separate curbside finds. Stacked together and painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White, it looks like one complete cabinet. After painting my tub Provence blue, my gray cabinet looked tired and boring. So I painted the cabinet Old White and brushed Provence inside the shelves.

I stacked one on top of the other, and removed the doors from the upper cabinet, adding a bit of decorative trim.

White Bathroom Baskets for Easy Storage of Grooming SuppliesYou can just slide the basket out to get what you need. I actually think this system keeps the shelves better organized than if everything was just shoved in there behind doors.

Painted Vintage Mirror in Provence Blue, Annie Sloan Chalk PaintI didn’t stop at the cabinet.

The vintage white mirror over the tub needed a coat of the Provence Blue, too.

Painted and Distressed Vintage Mirror in Provence Blue I love how this mirror looks now! I distressed it quite a bit to make the scroll work stand out.

Painted and Distressed Vintage Mirror in Provence BlueI didn’t wax this piece after painting it. It’s not like it’s going to get a lot of wear and tear hanging on the wall. I’m not a fan of the waxing even though it’s not hard to do. I think I’m just a lazy decorator.

I found it at our local flea market a couple years ago for just $20!

  1. LOVE the changes you made Jennifer and I love love how fresh and bright your cabinet looks with the new paint job!! Everything looks so pretty!

  2. Looks wonderful! Have you thought of painting the medallion on the cupboard blue? It looks like it contrasted in the before pic. I love your old mirror and wish I had your talent.

  3. When I saw your first pic I stopped in my tracks and got excited! I have an ancient homemade very chippy cabinet like your lower base, which I have owned for almost 20 yrs now! Mine however has been in storage/the feed rm in the barn it’s entire life with me – passed over time and again for being too plain. From your pic I see I can add feet, a shelf on top, add fluted trim (that I already have as a reject from a dif project), paint and voila -plain is transformed into both fab and functional! Likely would have a new home in my entrance/laundry rm.

I have a slightly larger bthrm and love furniture in the bthrm! I have an old china cabinet with the middle 1/3 section glass and I love the look of it in there. Thanks for the inspiration!

  4. Beautiful, Jennifer! Love that shade of blue! Your cabinet/shelving piece is great. I would not have thought it was two pieces that you married together. They were obviously meant to be. I got a similar piece from Sauder that was laminate and what a nightmare to paint that was. It will probably have to be redone at some point as I’m just not happy with it.

  5. I think your mirror is the perfect solution to what to do with an old mirror I just bought! Love the whole room re-do but the mirror is what really catches my eye! Thanks for the inspiration…pinning it now!

  6. What a nice way to brighten the room up for a fresh change. I agree that the gray cabinet needed a lift and you did magic!!
