French Flair: Amazing Interiors with Old World Charm

Hello friends! I’m excited to share Fifi O’Neill’s latest book with all of you – French Flair: Creating a Home Inspired by French Style. Fifi explores the foundational elements of a French decorating aesthetic โ€” think soft color palettes, rich fabrics, curated antiques, refined furniture, and organic materials โ€” blending sophistication with simplicity in an irresistible manner. You can enter for a chance to win this book simply by leaving a comment at the end of this post. The winner will be announced next Saturday.

Today I’m featuring one of the homes in the book, the charming abode of Kathy McCabe, interior designer and store shop owner. Situated in the historic district of McKinney, Texas, the home is a true charmer reflecting a French aesthetic. The entryway features arched doorways and soft blue tones, setting the stage for the rest of the home. (all photography is by Mark Lohman).

A cream and soft blue wallpaper provide a beautiful backdrop for French vintage finds along with a charming bouquet of sweet pea flowers.

Kathy and her husband Doug opened up the interior flow of the home by widening interior doorways. Linen fabrics grace the upholstered furniture while treasured vintage finds enhance the French vibe. Kathy owns a shop called My Favorite Room that sells items sourced from French farmhouses.

The McCabe kitchen featured in French Flair showcases a beautiful wood floor that highlights the soft blues and grays of the home’s color palette. The two large drawers in the center of the island were an add-on to the piece of furniture and contain warming drawers. How clever is that idea? A vintage pendant light and white ironstone plates above the sink on the wall enhance the French ambiance.

Believe it or not, this space was once a detached one-car garage. The room now provides extra dining space for intimate meals and cozy entertaining. The buffet beneath the window is a built-in piece.

Antique French doors on a rolling track separate the kitchen from another dining space. French elements are carefully curated throughout the home. Romantic, painted furniture, linen fabrics, and vintage light fixtures add interesting character to every corner.

Note the subtle nod to garden spaces in the Texas home. Small statues, garden style furniture, and fresh flowers hint at the couple’s love of gardening.

An ample porch provides plenty of room for enjoying the outdoors. A pair of romantic, medal pendant lights complement the wicker furniture and linen tablecloth. A brick fireplace creates a cozy gathering spot for chilly evenings.

  4. I dearly love the French aesthetic in decorating, however, our family requires COMFORTABLE FURNITURE as a reality in life. Often when I see these homes I am not seeing furniture or spaces that seems very “livable” and comfortable for daily living. I’m guessing the “kick back and relax” spaces just weren’t shown. Fifi’s designs are always inspiring, gorgeous and creative. I’m sure her new book will be the same.

  9. This home is lovely and really shows the romantic side of French decor. I really love the kitchen, the bedroom with the daybed and the sunroom with the settee. Its makes a statement without being overwhelming. The colors are lovely and I love all the pottery. Keep up the great work Jennifer, I pin most of the homes you feature and go back to them everytime I feel a need to change things out a little bit. I would love to add 1 of those architectural designs to my kitchen fan but haven’t quite figured out how to do that. Have a great weekend. Any ideas? Kim
