Fresh and Airy North Carolina Home: Muted Tones and Texture

Happy Labor Day, friends! Today we’re touring a fresh and airy North Carolina home by Ally Whalen Design. A pleasing mix of muted tones and rich textures make this house inviting and comfortable.

The first thing that caught my eye in the kitchen was the pair of framed cow prints (no wonder, since I have several cow paintings in my own home). I also love the shiplap, open shelves, and wood floors.

A pair of large botanical prints add color in this fresh and airy North Carolina home while lending an earthy, organic vibe.

A sisal rug in the dining room adds texture and interest. I’ve always been a fan of sisal, but fear my kitties would claw it to shreds if we had it in the house.

The entryway features a metal mirror that looks like it’s framed by twigs which adds to the earthy appeal of this North Carolina home.

Neutral bedrooms seem so serene and peaceful to me. The French ruffled pillow is soft and pretty against the floral bedding.

A second bedroom repeats the soothing, neutral color scheme. Natural linens adorn the bed and I love the full bed skirt.

  2. This post was so refreshing with its neutral and calm colors. Are we doing way too much colorful decor at Christmastime? I think maybe we are. I can definitely see a resolution in my future to tone it down, both in color and in stressful preparation for the holidays. I’ll leave the over-the-top decor and prep to those who appreciate it.

Note: Jennifer, the over-the-top does not refer to you. You know I love your down to earth taste and decor.

  4. Happy Labor Day! Thanks for sharing this home again, it is lovely. I really liked how she would add a silver piece or two right in the middle of very earthy decor. Very slick and stylish.
