Glitter Star DIY Ornaments
When it comes to Christmas, I tend to be a traditionalist. I like old-fashioned decorations with lots of greenery draped around the house. I love twinkling lights, shiny ornaments, and anything with glitter! Today I’m sharing how to make Glitter Star DIY ornaments as part of a fun celebration called the 31 Days of Handmade Christmas. Each day during the month of October, a blogger is sharing a handmade ornament. You can see all of their holiday inspiration at the end of this post. But for now, let me share my glittery star ornaments made from paper.
My Glitter Star DIY ornaments are made from scrapbook paper using origami, the Japanese method of folding paper to create shapes and figures.
I’ve always held a fascination for origami … how a flat piece of paper can be turned into something beautiful just by folding it. I used 2 different scrapbook papers to create my star ornaments, and sprinkled them with glitter.
Here’s the star about halfway through the folding process.
The video below shows the complete steps for folding the stars.
You can pause the video while you’re making your folds, which makes it easier to follow. You need to cut your paper in the shape of a pentagon. You can simply Google “pentagon shape” to find a shape that you can print and then trace onto your decorative paper, book page, or even a sheet of music.
Once your stars are all folded, brush a thin coat of Mod Podge on them and sprinkle with glitter. Then cut a length of thin decorative ribbon about 5 inches long. Create a loop and hot glue both ends onto the back of one of the star’s points.
Let the Glitter Star DIY ornaments dry and they’re ready to hang!
Of course, you don’t have to hang them. You can set them around the house in your holiday vignettes for a bit of sparkle and glam!
See the links below to visit all the handmade ornaments – the list will keep growing until the end of October. You’ll have 31 choices for Christmas ornaments you can make yourself!

I love your stars! I want to make some for my tree and I intend to make these with my kids at school the week before Christmas. They’ll love learning the origami technique and then decorating their star with glitter to take home. Thanks for this wonderful idea!
