Halloween Decorating in a Jiffy

fall decorating, Halloween October 27, 2013

Around these parts, Halloween decorating is quickly becoming competitive with Christmas decorations. I’m sure you’ve probably seen an abundance of costumes and spooky decor in the stores where you live. This year, I decided to do something a little more “au naturelle” in a corner of the kitchen.

Natural Halloween Decor with Gourds, Crate, and Burlap

One thing I love to do with pumpkins is to stack them. Just find flatter pumpkins and if necessary, trim off the stem so that another pumpkin will sit comfortably on top.

Halloween Banner and Gourds

A rustic crate turned on its side becomes an impromptu display for gourds and Baby Boo pumpkins.

Fall Gourds in a Wooden Crate

These gourds will get recycled into my Thanksgiving decor. I like to get as much mileage as possible out of decorations.

Since I don’t typically carve pumpkins, I add candlesticks to cast a glow.

Halloween Decorating with Candlesticks, Gourds, and White Pumpkins

Last year I made this vintage Halloween banner using book pages, vintage graphics, and twine.

I printed the graphics and Mod Podged them onto the book pages. Then I applied a coat of Mod Podge over the entire page to help preserve it.

DIY Paper Halloween Banner

My Halloween decorating was done in a jiffy as I was busy making pumpkin bread today.

On Halloween I’ll put a bunch of mason jars with candles out on the porch for the Trick or Treaters.

It’s all pretty, but I particularly like the banner, so I will pin it to my banner board.

I love your cute unspooky decor. You brought hay in the house. You are braver than me. It’s so messy.

I love this for fall and your banner is so sweet and vintage looking. I don’t decorate for Halloween but this soft touch is really nice.

Your garland is so cute, Jennifer! BTW, I love your Christmas tree photo on your sidebar. I want to do that to one of my trees this year (cutting some branches out), because it looks so much like photos I have of my Mom’s trees in the early 50’s!

Your Halloween touches are perfect! I swear I can’t find those baby boos anywhere here. I love them and they are such a nice change from orange. I’ll just have to admire yours!

Darn cute banner you have here. I don’t do much Halloween decorating…just a mini flag this year.
