What to Do with Apples: Baking and Decorating
Yesterday the family went apple picking at a nearby orchard after a trip to the corner coffee shop. It was the perfect sunshine-filled day with crisp air. After bringing home a full bag, it got me to thinking about what to do with apples.
The obvious choice when using apples is to eat, bake, or cook them. Have you ever made apple rosettes? I haven’t but I’m definitely trying this recipe. She makes it look so easy and the apple pastry turns out so elegant!
How about an apple cake? I don’t like a lot of frosting so a naked cake is right up my alley. Here’s a yummy recipe you might want to try – and it has apple roses on top! Last year I made a simpler apple cake with caramel sauce that was really good.
Stuffed baked apples are an easy way to use and eat your apples before they go bad. I found several recipes for stuffing and baking apples, but two that especially stood out were this recipe with meat, and a savory vegetarian recipe.
I really love this idea of serving cider in hollowed-out apples. It looks so cute. If you want to spice things up, serve a Washington apple shot in them.
Apples can be used in decor, too. Hollow out a few and tuck votive candles inside for a festive look during the fall season or at Christmas time.
Make a DIY apple wreath if you’re feeling especially creative. The Wood Grain Cottage has a great tutorial for making a faux apple wreath.
Use apples in your table settings – either in the centerpiece or scattered down the center like a table runner.
Do you have any creative ideas for using apples during the fall season?

Every recipe sounds delicious. I especially like the rosettes. I have never seen those before, and of course, drinking a little spirits out of the carved apples looks cozy. That, I might try. Thanks for the wonderful post, Jennifer, and have a great week.
I am very excited to make the apple rosettes. If I make them with natural sugar then it will be a healthy dessert, right? 😉
Thanks, I love apples eat one almost everyday and love apple cider in cooler weather with cinnamon stick. Love to cook with them too, now I have some new ideas.
I love the tried and true apple pie. I have been scouring the internet and found a couple of different apple loaf breads, coffee cakes that I’m going to try. My favorite though is apple fritters, I have a lovely locally owned Bakery that makes the most yummy apple fritters that I indulge in every once in awhile. I know it’s not good for the waistline but can’t help myself .
