Salem Home Renovation with Historic Appeal
Happy Halloween! For today’s tour I tried to find an older home that looks like it could be haunted, but I couldn’t find a decent one. So I settled on a house by Natasha Habermann Studio located in Salem, unfortunately it’s Salem, New York – not Massachusetts. The home does have a couple of cats though, but they’re calico and not black cats. Sigh. Still, I think you’ll find this Salem home renovation to be quite pretty and you’ll appreciate the adherence to the home’s history.

A sisal rug lines the entry to the home and looks good against the green brick flooring.
The entryway is light and bright and reveals a quirk you’ll often find in older homes. The door under the staircase is angled on one side in order to fit.

Vintage newel posts adorn the bottom of the stair rail. Off the entryway is a small den with wallpaper.

A pretty portrait catches the eye upon entering the room. The leather chair and ottoman create a comfy corner for reading. The first of the two cats enjoys a nap since she has the chair to herself.

The main living room is light and airy with large windows all around. Texture is added through the use of linen slipcovers, a velvet-topped ottoman, and cozy pillows and throws.

A landscape oil painting adds a spot of color between the two large windows that reveal beautiful views outside.

The second cat takes advantage of the plush little ottoman while the first cat has moved to a prime spot on the back of the sofa. My cats like to sit on top of the couch like that, too. I think they prefer that location because it’s easier to keep an eye on the squirrels outside.

The home’s décor mixes more modern elements like the simple coffee table with traditional furniture. The diversity keeps things interesting.

A wood and glass bi-fold door provides a glimpse of the dining room from the living room. Contemporary chairs snuggle up to the old farmhouse table for an eclectic look.

The details in this home…love them. I wonder who the artist is and if the mantel piece is of a daughter? granddaughter? Intimate art pieces are a favorite of mine. A simple family dog or cat works too.
The glass panel doors are a wonderful vintage addition and that tile! Green tiles with all the wood is a keeper.

I like the oil portraits too, along with that door and the entry tile floor. They really did a nice job with this renovation.

Very interesting. I could almost accept the more modern touches! I love that small wallpapered room off the entry, that glass and wood bi-fold door is such a wonderful touch and the newel posts and bannister are gorgeous. I’ll take the cats as well.
Hi Teddee! You like all the things I like about this house. I adore the wallpapered room and I think this winter might be the time I finally break down and add wallpaper somewhere.

Another attractive home using black and ivory with other colors.( LOL my favorite since we have done the same.) We just remodeled our lower level and all six doors are painted black, as is the front door on the main floor. Such cute kitties. The artwork is nice and so is the mirror over the fireplace.
