Sprucing Up with White and Natural Textures

Although some people like to cozy up their homes with warmer colors during winter, I prefer the fresh, clean look of white. I think perhaps it’s because the world is frosty outside and I want some of that crisp and clear beauty inside. To keep things from appearing cold and sterile, I like to throw in natural textures to create an earthy, organic feel.

White Ironstone Bowl

Introducing my new white ironstone bowl with some fun balls tossed in.

I found the bowl on Ebay, it’s slightly misshapen which makes it all the more lovely.

I added some birch-looking balls for texture.

And added some twiggy balls for extra color.

How do you decorate during the winter months after Christmas has come and gone?

Do you cozy it up with warm colors?

Or do you bring a touch of spring and light into your home?

  1. I tend to bring out the warmer colours in my colour scheme. Throughout the home I carry a faded green, deep reds , creamy whites and rich chocolate. At Christmas time, the reds and green tens to take the stage. Then after I remove all the Christmas decor, I tend to move toward the chocolates and greens. Spring time will see more whites as will summer… then we revert back to the chocolates and greens for fall, and the entire thing starts all over again.
The colours maintain… but the accessories trade out…
What a pretty bowl. The balls are a perfect accompaniment .

  2. Hi Jennifer,
I with you with the whites and lighter colors. I like to use textures with my white decor too. I also love the chippiness of the old pieces I have in my decor for contrast. I love neutrals!!!! I think that is the greatness of whites and neutrals you can mix and match things easily.

  3. Very pretty balls Jennifer and I love the textures. Have to admit I go for a similar natural look here in winter, which of course isn’t until June. We have very mild winters in my part of Australia, so I don’t feel the need to add warming colours.

  4. Good Morning Jennifer, Here in England the weather is very “up and down” so in the winter I like brighter colours to compensate for the grey days. In my kitchen I have bright colours, but having said that the colours in my living room are quite neutral…does that make me a split personality!
    Have a lovely Sunday.
    Best Wishes

  5. The white is beautiful. I really like bowls full of various things like that. The texture and color is fun.

I’m definitely ready to bring on spring. I’m thinking bird nests and forsythia now.

  6. Love your new bowl, and it is a really good size. I switched all my slipcovers to white for the rest of winter. Not sure of the look, but will go with it for a while.

  7. Very pretty! I am willing Spring to hurry up and arrive. I’ve been painting some of my wood trim white, adding light colored pillows and I just bought a palm tree.

I usually like warmer, cozier colors this time of year, but I feel like it’s been the longest winter ever and it’s only January 🙂

  8. The white bowl is splendid. I really do not think that much about winter as we have mild winters. I did put out some stacked ironstone and Italian tole on the buffet. Mostly white with yellow for punch.

  9. Such a pretty, white bowl! The beautiful balls look wonderful in there … I have the same ones! I, too, love winter white, but also adding earthy tones (and, okay, a few pops of color), too, to carry us through until Spring arrives (never soon enough, right)?
