Step Inside an Enchanting Colorful Farmhouse with Vibrant Hues and Rustic Charm
Raise your hand if you’re ready for some color! Today’s colorful farmhouse by Elizabeth Drake is sure to whet your whistle for whatever color might be your favorite. Love red? This house has you covered! Crave green? You’ll love the dining room. Anyone for blue or yellow? This house has those hues equally represented. So let’s get on with this exciting tour!
The entryway is perhaps the most neutral room in the house, but a picture on the far wall hints at the color that’s ahead as you wander through the home. A whimsical Abe Lincoln pays tribute to the home’s location in Illinois. I think the table has such a cool vibe and the crows – they’re always hanging out in the cornfields of Illinois.

Step into the living room and be washed in a tasteful mix of color and pattern. The green and white club chairs have a nubby and interesting texture. Buffalo check pillows are a classic on the red couch. And how about the floral shaped ottoman? The vaulted ceiling and stone fireplace add texture and drama to this truly inviting space.

The kitchen features a fabulous, buttery yellow cabinet. Don’t you just love it? This view provides a peek at the green buffalo check in the breakfast nook.

Not only does this colorful farmhouse have a lovely palette, it enjoys yet another fireplace in the dining nook. Flow blue China is displayed above the mantel, while a red-striped rug and patterned pillows add another color dimension against the green cabinetry and bead board wall.

Across from the fireplace in the dining nook is an adorable settee in the same shade of green as the buffalo check wallpaper and painted cabinet/bookshelf. A pretty tree poster sets it all off.

The main dining room features a unique light fixture above a large table with black, Windsor chairs. The light is giving me inspiration for my own dining room. I haven’t been able to make a decision for a light fixture yet. I love the pale green and white rug that gives a nod to a quilt pattern. And the simple farm painting adds the right touch of color pizazz, not to mention the pretty sunflowers.

The family room marries more color together in a peaceful, not chaotic, way. The chandelier is the same as the adjoining dining room’s light fixture, creating cohesiveness. But note that the rugs are different. I wish I had more confidence to make these types of daring choices that work so well.

Here’s another view of the family room so you can appreciate the stone fireplace and the wall of French doors.

Adding more beauty to this colorful farmhouse is an classic country cabinet in blue and coral.

Who’s a fan of red? It’s the main color for this charming and spacious laundry room. I think this would make a great kitchen design, too. Here’s another example of something I wouldn’t attempt, but it works. The stone floor with red cabinets and whimsical wallpaper is unexpected but I love the look.

The powder room enjoys a tan and red color scheme with a fun and dramatic wallpaper pattern.

Love this airy porch with amazing views outside. I’d start my day every morning in here with my coffee and a fire in the fireplace on chilly days. The red and soft blue pillows echo the same hues found in the fireplace stonework.

A vaulted wood ceiling graces the master bedroom, allowing for a tall, dramatic fireplace. Remember the buffalo checks from the living room and dining nook? You’ll find them again in this bedroom but in a lavender hue at the windows. Pale yellow coats the walls and is always a great complement to lavender, which you’ll see in the chairs and bedding.

More wallpaper lines one of the bathrooms with a beautiful wood vanity and ornate mirror.

Here’s a view of the outside of today’s beautifully, colorful home. Even outside, the house displays a bold red siding to replicate a barn in a farm field.

I hope you enjoyed today’s colorful farmhouse by Elizabeth Drake. I’ve found so many ideas as I work to transition my home from neutrals to colors, which started with my bedroom. What I learned most is to be a bit bolder in my choices and to not be afraid of taking small risks here and there. What did you like best about today’s home?

I can’t decide which room I like the most! Everything works for me, in this colorful house.
I could never pull this off but I love it. Different styles, wood types and tones, paint colors, fabrics and patterns, and it all works together. To me it’s somewhat casual but classy. Kind of eclectic farmhouse lol. I loved all of it. It is all interesting but not too busy or overdone. I would never think to use the wallpaper used in the laundry room (or any room for that matter lol) but it brightens the whole room up and looks great with that red shade. I wish I was an interior designer lol.
Loveeeeeee this house. Would not change a thing.
What a happy house! I couldn’t help but smile at every room.
I love the lavender quilt on the bed with that soft yellow paint..and the settee in green..I saved that one in hopes I remember when I change my kitchen bench I have now. That one looks more comfy and the bolsters are too cute.
Made my Sunday morning:0)
Isn’t this a lovely home with just the right color? It made me smile and think the people who live here are always happy and content.
This farmhouse is so cute and cozy, love it. I am a big fan of buttery yellows to warm up a space and the green and white buffalo check is such a nice change. I notice green is popping into decor often lately. Hmmm..
What a charming relaxing place. Each photo is better than the last.
Love it! I’ve always been a fan of color; I feel that color actually makes a house feel cozier and homier.
Every room looks so cozy. I’m trying to add more color to my living room. The red sofa in the living room of this house is beautiful. Would you tell me who the manufacturer is?
Just now catching this post on Monday. What a glorious home! LOVE IT!
Wow I really really love this home. As much as the color and textile choices all that folk art is wonderful.
I love the colors in this house!! So much fun
This house, and surrounding area, is something to dream about.
Hi Jennifer,
Beautiful home! It has given me a lot of great ideas. Thank you for featuring this home and all of the other beautiful homes and ideas over the years. You have a great sense of style.
Wow, it is so hard to choose a favorite part. If I had to choose one piece, it would be the blue and coral cabinet. But really, I just love the whole thing and how it goes together so well. It is amazing that so many different colors and patterns were used and it still works! So fun and cheerful.
Hi Jennifer!
I love the exterior, the laundry room and the farmhouse cabinet.
This house feels massive! The foyer and laundry rooms look huge.
Very nice.

Great job, Jennifer! Thanks for making this one of your best posts ever. Every single room was stunning. So many pins to my boards. Finally got the inspiration I needed for repainting my mom’s hutch in the soft blue and red. Might even start today. Bravo.
I loved the fireplace/dining nook area. It is very inviting!
