What Happens When a California Bungalow Gets a New Update

Take something a little old, look at it with a fresh pair of eyes, and breathe new life into it. This is what happened when a California bungalow received a new update from Kate Lester Interiors. The result is a light and airy home that makes you smile every time you enter its rooms. It starts with the orange front door and colorful abstract painting in the entryway, but that’s only the beginning.

The hall and landing have an uncluttered and serene beach style approach to decorating that journeys from one room to the next. It’s a cohesive feel that’s welcoming and relaxing.

Rust and blue pillows add a bit of color to the small living room in the California bungalow. If you have a small room, this layout is perfect for creating a cozy conversation area.

The kitchen blends gray and white together in a light and airy manner. Sandy colored wood floors run throughout this cheery home.

The adjacent dining room with its wraparound windows enjoys a bit of a farmhouse vibe with a sturdy wood table and metal chairs. Striped blue chair pads keep the coastal theme going.

The white family room is brushed with shades of blue and displays a textured sisal rug the color of the sand. Hydrangeas from the garden are tucked into a pretty piece of pottery on the coffee table.

I believe this room is in the basement and provides more gathering space for relaxing and enjoying the company of family and friends. The rope wall sconce is a fun touch!

The bedroom tosses in a bit of color with abstract pillows and artwork. The wooden headboard is reminiscent of the wood used in the dining table.

The tranquil bedroom features a pretty patterned floor with a soft blue vanity. The round mirror mimics a ship’s porthole window, adding to the beach style vibe of the coastal home.

  1. Very calming but I miss all the wood detailing you get in a Craftsman even if they had (horrors!) painted it white.

  2. Every decor site features sectionals. Not realistic. People want single seating, maybe a loveseat, but when people get together, that sectional is great for photo shoots but not for real life.
