Stunning New England Colonial Home: Light and Dark

Homes in the northeast area of the United States are some of my favorites. Their historical exteriors are endearing and timeless, creating a longing sense of wanting to explore inside. Today’s New England Colonial home by Corinne Acampora Interiors & Art home doesn’t disappoint. It’s a study in light and dark interiors, so everyone is happy – whether you like moody rooms or light and airy. Take a peek inside and see which you like best.

The foyer greets you with warm beige grass cloth wallpaper adorned with beautiful crown molding. A classic round entry table displays a vase of tall branches and a collection of books. I’ve always wanted an entryway like this.

The family room bears dark gray-blue paint on the striking walls with their architectural details. Paneled molding pairs with built-in bookcases to create a cozy library-type vibe.

Colorful curtains in a floral print add a shot of energy to the room, keeping it from looking too drab. A game table enjoys the benefit of natural light through the tall window. Scrabble, anyone?

The rich family room of this New England Colonial home features a beautiful rug that has a bit of the red color seen in the drapes and on the pillows of the couch. You can feel how cozy this room must be in winter with a crackling fire in the fireplace.ย

A light and airy sitting room features a pair of Jenny Lind chairs with pretty block print cushions – again, picking up on the red you saw in the family room. The dark blue dining room can be seen from this light-filled space.ย

I’ve always enjoyed houses like this that use a unifying color palette from one room to the next. It helps provide an aesthetic flow that’s easy on the eyes. The walls appear to be papered in dark blue grass cloth (which is really having a hay day right now). A large pendant light balances the size and weight of the impressive dining table. The side chairs have a dark navy window pane print on the cushions, while the end chairs feature a geometric print in red and cream.ย

If you’re more of a light and airy person, you’ll enjoy the kitchen with its rustic pendant light above a white and wood island. The room is kept warm with a choice of creamy-white paint and plenty of details like the bead board ceiling, crown molding, and six-over-six windows above the sink. A dainty block print adds a touch of color on the window shade.

The casual dining space in this New England Colonial home is filled with natural light – posing a contrast to the dark formal dining room. A natural wood table with sculpted legs takes center stage while Windsor chairs cozy up to the sides and upholstered end chairs flanking the ends.ย

The living room is also light and airy with a large window, beige walls and trim, and a linen sofa. A patterned rug, chair, drapes, and pillows keep things interesting and cozy.

The charming powder room displays a cheerful blue and white floral print wallpaper with a dark, wood-toned vanity. Who else is glad that wallpaper is back?

  1. Just stunning! The blue and red palette is right up my alley, and I love all the Colonial furniture. Gorgeous rugs. Love the way they painted the trim in the family room that beautiful blue, but left the windows natural wood–that’s something I’ve never seen before but it works so well.

  2. What a beautiful home! Too many lovely features to list, but it has such a warm and welcoming feel which is really important to me.
