Summer Blues in My Farmhouse Family Room
Summer is hot and humid here in Illinois so the color blue is perfect for cooling things down in our farmhouse family room. Blue also lends itself to a coastal theme which I’m slowly adding to the room. I’m also adding beach style to my son’s old bedroom and will share that with you when it’s all done. For now, I’ve added a few more touches of blue to the family room.
Light and airy is the look I’m going for in my farmhouse family room. Blue and white complementary pillows are the starting point and inspiration for adding the summer blues. Do you see my kitty, Trixie? She blends right in!
The pillows with quilted fronts are from HomeGoods and I love them. Two over-sized pillows come packaged together for just $25. The inserts are down-filled so they’re super comfy and since the covers zip off, they’re easy to wash.
The striped quilted throw is also from HomeGoods. When it comes to blankets for the spring and summer months, I love these mini quilts. They’re soft and cool to the skin. This one works perfect with the pillows.
On the coffee table I’ve grouped some of my vintage aqua bottles on a wooden tray.
Some of these vintage bottles have great detailing on them.
I’ve been collecting them for a few years now.
They’re even pretty when viewed from overhead.
Trixie’s still enjoying her nap in the farmhouse family room with its cool blues.
Must be nice to have a cat’s life!

My goodness, I could curl up and take a snooze in this room on a hot and humit summer day! Trixie certainly seems to enjoy the atmosphere and is styling by putting her finishing touch to the photos. I love it! Jennifer, I know I have mentioned it before but I am still loving those painted floor covers you have! Happy Monday!
You can’t go wrong with summertime blues…my favorite! Your room looks so fresh and light and comfy. Love the simplicity of your collection of bottles on a tray.

What a beautiful summer look!
I love it. The clock fits right in too as well as the curtains. Are those branches serving as rods?
Love the blue and white with the burlap! And I think the branch curtain rods are wonderful! Could you tell us what you used to attach them to the wall? (I’ve been looking for brackets to attach a birch branch to use as a curtain rod, and cannot find affordable brackets that do not cost more than a entire curtain rod.) Thank you for sharing!
LOVE youre summer blues! x
Hi. I would love to know where you got your white sofa cover. I have a love seat I would like to cover like that. Beautiful look.
Thanks so much
Deb
I love your web site and have told many friends. I started to collect “treasurers” when my Grandmother passed away 35 years ago. The basement was packed with a variety of lovely pieces old junk and clever old finds and I have incorporated them into my home. I also have the advantage of living 20 miles from Pasadena and the Pasadena Rose Bowl Swap Meet. Many of my pieces of furniture came from the Rose Bowl. I have a collection of old bottles I found in a garage and a wonderful sign from Reeds Butterscotch Candy in very good shape. I talked my husband into going to Round Top one year on a Texas trip. The sneaky guy took me on a Monday, everything was closed!! Friends and first time visitors say coming to my house is like coming to a museum. I tend toward white slipcovers and discovered Painters drop clothes at Home Depo 10 years ago. I wash them in hot hot water and bleach before making them into slipcovers, table runners etc. Well I am just about out of room, wIsh you could visit, I think you would love my Toile guest room. I am in Santa Clarita 30 miles above Hollywood. Come visit!! Sincerely, Charlotte Gill
