Summer Cabin, Decorating with Purpose + More: Friday Finds

On Tuesday this week, I saw my first robin of 2024. That’s kind of a big deal in the Chicago area. We always say spring has officially sprung once the robins return, and normally that doesn’t happen until March. So I’m hopeful that this year’s milder winter will continue and give way to an early spring season.

To celebrate spring this year, hubby and I are going to the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, DC and I cannot wait! I’ve only been to DC once, and that was back in junior high school. But I’ve never seen the cherry blossoms and have always wanted to go. So, this year we canceled our California coast trip and booked an east coast getaway instead. With all the rain California is getting, I think it’s the right decision. But enough of me and traveling, let’s take a look at this week’s Friday Finds.

Starting today’s line-up is a charming summer cabin by Charlie & Company Design located in northwestern Wisconsin. It’s the perfect getaway, and includes a colorful yellow refrigerator in the kitchen!

Everything is coming up green right now! Snowdrops, crocus, daffodils, and more are pushing their leaves up through the soil and I’m loving it. I’m a fan of all things green and love this post by Chris and Julia that shows different ways and shades of green to use in the house.

My friend Danielle at Finding Silver Pennies shares how to decorate your home with meaning. I find this to be so special, and a better approach than simply decorating with the latest fads. I think you’ll enjoy her design philosophy.

Sometimes when you’re going to redo a room in your house, it helps to see what others have done. Annie shares the before and after photos from several rooms in her home that have been made over. And wow – all I can say is she’s been busy!!

Do you love sweets from France? Serious Eats shares essential French desserts for every skill level of baker and cook. I’ve made a few items from the list and they’re surprisingly easier than you might think.

Let’s end today’s treasures with a bit of whimsy and color. Take a tour of this pretty Georgian home that’s not shy about making a statement in any room.

Enjoy your weekend! Hopefully you’re experiencing wonderful weather, too.

  1. Oh! You should have come to CA. The rain was really not anywhere as bad as the news reported. I live here-and it was a few days of rain. Nothing too bad.
We just visited the elephant seals in San Simeon -outside of Cambria. A yearly trek to see the babies on the beaches. A wonderful thing to see.
We still hiked with the dogs along Fiscalini Ranch and enjoyed the wild zebras on the San Simeon land. The sun is out more than the days it rains.
DC cherry festival is a lovely thing to see as well. I was privileged to be able to work in DC and loved the city. The walk around the mall is fascinating. Don’t miss the great restaurants of China town. Enjoy your trip and thank you for this website.

  2. This cabin! Just gorgeous. That could be a permanent retreat for me lol. Also great examples of using green. I’m in the process of finding the just right green for my kitchen.
