The Riverfront Beauty of South Haven, Michigan

travel August 17, 2020

A few weeks ago we made a quick trip to South Haven, Michigan from our Airbnb near Saugatuck. It has the beautiful Black River running through it from Lake Michigan. There’s a mix of new and older homes and buildings.

We spent out last evening during our vacation in this charming lakefront town and just enjoyed walking around and having dinner.

I thought it was interesting that the door was slightly ajar on this charming white cottage.

This double-decker porch takes full advantage of the South Haven views. You’ll find oodles of rental homes here – more so than Saugatuck or Holland.

Boats travel down the Black River from Lake Michigan and it makes for a very pretty summer display. What a charming place to live.

Especially if you’re lucky enough to live in a riverfront home. How wonderful it must be to enjoy morning coffee or an evening glass of wine on one of these porches watching the ships sail gently by.

You can walk out to this lighthouse where the Black River meets the Lake. I’m glad we made time to visit South Haven during our recent vacation.

We recently chose next summer’s vacation home, this time through VRBO. We’re trying a farm vacation in the heart of Wisconsin – not too farm from a couple of lakes and charming towns. Do you have any upcoming plans for a quick getaway?

    Good Monday Morning,

We got a little rain overnight. Praise God! Pretty dry here near Centreville, MI. Really enjoyed your tour of South Haven. It is a favorite spot for me. Love walking the town and beach. Haven’t made it this year, perhaps fall before it gets too cold. Were you able to eat at Clementine’s? Have a great week.

Hi Vicky! South Haven is beautiful, as is so much of the shoreline. I can see why you go every year. We didn’t eat at Clementine’s but did have dinner at Captain Lou’s.

I’m from Michigan, just a short ride from South Haven! I love this town too, it is always so fun to visit there and eat at one of their quaint restaurants! I miss Lake Michigan, as I have so many fond memories of going to the beaches along it’s shores! Kind of made me homesick to see all your cool pics! I do love living in GA though, especially in the winter 🙂

I know you had a great time and it is beautiful there and lots to see in Michigan. When my parents were alive we use to visit Michigan every three years to see my aunt, she lived in Detroit and we traveled all over to see all kinds of sights. It was a wonderful time.

I’m from South Haven; I grew up there. I live in California now and I miss South Haven so much! Periodically, I look at pictures of it on my computer. I lived in the country there, down the road from Maple Grove store. I wish I’d never left. It’s a beautiful
