The Kennebunkport House: Dwellings That Capture Coastal Living at Its Finest
Are you ready for today’s line-up that includes several varieties of the Kennebunkport house? The quaint appeal and stunning architecture of this seaside town has forever captured my heart. Whether large or small, the majority of homes are well cared for and made our recent visit to Kennebunkport one of the best vacations I’ve ever experienced. So let’s get started!
This dark blue charmer is located on the main road that takes you into downtown Kennebunkport and makes for a nice entry. I love the crispness of the white trim against the dark siding, but what really caught my eye is the whale wind compass on top of the house. The white picket fence and Adirondack chairs emphasize the coastal New England vibe.
This yellow beauty is located on the same road into town. Our Airbnb was located in Cape Porpoise which is just outside of the downtown area, so we got to pass these beauties frequently. I already featured some of the homes in Cape Porpoise earlier.
One house I didn’t show was the Airbnb where we stayed. This pretty home is located on a quiet dead-end street surrounded by plenty of trees. We were in an apartment that’s part of the house.
The entrance to the apartment is private with its own patio and firepit, located on the side of the owner’s home. We chose this rental unit because it’s newer, affordable, nicely decorated, and had perfect reviews. We got to meet the owner and her daughter who were both very nice and helpful in making suggestions of where to go and what to see.
Kennebunkport has a mix of painted clapboard-sided houses and shingled houses. I love both styles equally.
Love this farmhouse-style beauty with its large porch, expansive yard, colorful awnings, and picket fence. It’s located in town near the Kennebunk river that flows into the Gulf of Maine. Gorgeous, right? It’s within walking distance to shops, restaurants, and boating.
Down the street a couple houses is this charming yellow house with a scooter out front. I love that they incorporated pavers for the driveway instead of asphalt.
Not all the homes are grandiose, but most of them have great curb appeal, like this one in the Cape Porpoise section of Kennebunkport. It has a bright red door and a porpoise to welcome you.
If you prefer a bright yellow door, this classic white Kennebunkport house might be more your style.
Blue shutters are another way to add color to a white house. Note the fancy corbels holding up the roof over the front door.
This charming ranch enjoys a rustic split rail fence out front. After seeing several front yard fences on our trip, I went home convinced I need to add one in front of our house, with a pretty arbor over the sidewalk. I told hubby it’s going to be a fall project this year. I love the dark red trim on this home, and its nod to patriotism with two flags.
Here’s something you’ll see a lot of when you venture to Maine – Adirondack chairs and hydrangeas. I don’t know if it’s the ocean air, but the hydrangeas look better in Maine than they do in Illinois.
Kennebunkport offers such a great variety of home styles, which was refreshing to see. It made for wonderful walks down the tree-lined streets.
This Colonial-style home is probably the most prominent style of architecture when it comes to houses in the area. We saw several of these in Portsmouth, each one a different color.
Wouldn’t you like to step inside and take a look around?
A Kennebunkport house takes on special ambiance when lit up at night. I’ve always loved a saltbox home and when it’s painted red, it’s even better!
In a couple of days, we’ll take a look at the Kennebunk area, which is just across the Kennebunk River from Kennebunkport. I can’t wait to show it to you!
I love this post it has every thing color, architecture and surprises. The houses with the bright doors are so cute and the yards are perfectly groomed. Enchanting.
These are all wonderful. They all seem so warm and inviting. My favorite is the dark blue one, and am a big fan of weather vanes. We have a dragon on top of our house. I daydream of living in a small charming town where you can walk everywhere. It is beautiful here, but a drive to everything.
Though we have retired to N.C. my husband and I are both born and raised in Ct. Seeing your pictures from your trip to Maine gives me a little twinge of homesickness for New England. Thanks for all the lovely photos.
Beautiful homes. I think my fav is the white one with the porch and white fence but I also imagine the inside of that ranch is beautiful with it’s vaulted roof line. Oh and the dark blue one and the large one with shake ciding and green trim lol.
It wasn’t long enough. it was over before I really settled in to look. Mlol!! Thanks for another great tour of old houses.
I can see myself walking through the front door of any of these! Thanks.
I would love to learn more about the white house apartment you rented that had the private entrance with a private patio. Do you have any contact information for that particular apartment?
Hi Bonnie,
That apartment is available for rent on Airbnb. I highly recommend it! You can find it here: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/48054899
