Tudor-Style Kitchen: Stunning Update Now in Oval Room Blue

Warm character and timeless craftsmanship define a Tudor-style kitchen and dining room by Heidi Caillier Design (one of my favorite design pros). The layout of the kitchen and dining area is very similar to the childhood home of one of my first friends, so it struck a nostalgic and emotional chord for me.

This kitchen strikes a balance between vintage warmth and modern sophistication. Cabinets painted in Farrow & Ball’s Oval Room Blue sets a soothing tone, enriched by brushed brass hardware that adds both contrast and character. The cabinetry’s inset doors and shaker style give a nod to classic craftsmanship, while the soft gray subway tile lends a touch of modernity.

A narrow marble-topped island stands elegantly at the center, perched on black iron legs that give the kitchen a collected, European feel. The marble surface offers a clean, cool contrast to the brick and wood elements, perfect for prepping meals or casual conversation.

The brick flooring is the true soul of the space — its aged texture and warm reddish tones bring an inviting, old-world charm that pairs beautifully with the cooler cabinetry.

Beyond the island, a built-in breakfast nook makes the most of the surrounding windows. The banquette seating, upholstered for comfort, turns this corner into a cozy spot for morning coffee or weekend brunch, with views of the garden just outside. My friend’s kitchen was just the same, with a view into the backyard with a sloping lot that seemed to disappear into a gentle stream on the property’s edge.

Altogether, the Tudor-style kitchen blends practicality with personality. It’s warm yet colorful, small yet functional. While some might not favor a brick floor, its beauty is unmatched. I would gladly accept broken dishes that fall in exchange for its rustic charm. And I wouldn’t complain about my feet hurting while cooking – that’s what indoor shoes are for!

From the far end of the kitchen, you get a glimpse of the dining room that’s used for holiday meals and more formal gatherings.

The dining room continues the home’s warm, collected aesthetic with a sophisticated mix of color, texture, and classic form. A set of plum-toned Windsor chairs gather ’round a simple rectangular table, offering a classic twist on traditional farmhouse style.

A sculptural brass chandelier overhead introduces a note of midcentury flair, balancing the otherwise timeless setting with an understated touch of modern design.

Along one wall, a deep green sideboard (which looks rich behind the plum chairs) with detailed brass hardware adds a sense of richness and utility, displaying a curated mix of pottery and greenery that underscores the room’s organic, handmade sensibility. Above it, a small collection of ceramic wall art with delicate blue motifs creates an unexpected focal point—quietly whimsical yet refined.

From morning coffee in the Tudor-style kitchen breakfast nook to an evening meal in the dining room, the space is warm and inviting – just like the space I remember in my friend’s house.
