What’s My Style?
When I first discovered decorating blogland I was so excited. Looking through blogs was as much fun as thumbing through the pages of Country Living magazine. But now, well, I’m a bit frustrated. I see so many great ideas and creativity out there … I want to do it all. This is creating design style havoc for me. I like the French Country blogs. I adore the Swedish decorating blogs. The Farmhouse blogs make me drool. And don’t even get me started with blogs that take ordinary objects of rusty metal and turn them into something beautiful.
But some of these looks just don’t go together so I find myself needing to redefine my decorating style. And so, I searched for room photos I love, hoping to identify what look I want to stay focused on. Here’s what I like best …
Love everything about this room!

Curvy, romantic furniture.

Hmmm. Seeing a theme here? Lots of white and architectural details, with a dusting of blue.

I guess soft colors are a preference.

Colors that work with a cottage theme. Simple and unsophisticated.

A bit of black to keep things from becoming too sweet.

This room is almost too formal for me – but I love the colors and that little leather chair.

This bedroom is similar to mine. White bedposts, white dresser, flowy curtains.

Love the beadboard, cabinets and wallpaper … but some of the details are a little too sweet for my taste.

Back to some color! Accented with white.

So after this little exercise, I’m thinking cottage farmhouse is my style. Would you agree?

What a great post Jennifer! It can be so hard to stay focused after looking at so many inspiring photos and projects. I find myself doing the same thing and have tend to gravitate towards something more eclectic which isn’t necessarily what the goal is 🙂
These are all great spaces. Love those yellow doors. I am like you and see so many great styles and want to incorporate it all in my home, too.
Yup! I agree, Jennifer! There’s a definite defining theme in the photos you chose. This was a great exercise to discover your likes and dislikes! My tastes tend toward French country and Swedish. Simple decor, clean lines, and lots of white with a little neutral thrown in. 🙂
xoxo laurie
I love all of the rooms you shared, I love anything coastal or cottagey without being too traditional, but then I also love an elegant french provinicial look too, it’s hard to pick just one! xo K
I feel the same way you do! There is just too much out there and I like it all.
I love the first room you showed. I want walls like that and I LOVE those yellow doors.
Jennifer, These are absolutely inspiring photos! I do believe we have a lot in common! I’ve known for a while that my house is not always indicitive of what I’m drawn to at the moment. And like you that creates design havoc because I want to change so much. And I want to change it NOW! LOL! Which is just not possible. So I feel your frustration!
I love all the styles you mention too, and the images you found are lovely. I have found a little bit of this and a little it of that makes me happy and becomes my style. I walk around the house at night after everyone is asleep and think..I love this place.:)
i feel just the same and think my style is cottage farmhouse too, with maybe some english country…a bit swedish…see i am terrible at deciding! this is a good way to see if a theme or certain colors develop, as you post images you like…
🙂
Hi Jennifer!
I’m with you… I see so much that I like that I am undecided in what to do with my house.
I like bright colors, pastels and neutrals.
Wood painted black, white and stained.
French Country, New Country and traditional.
HELP!
thanks for sharing all these beautiful pictures at my Bunny Hop Party!
xoxo Bunny Jean
I think alot of use are confused right now. There are so many pretty spaces out there. I love all the pictures you shared today. Thanks for sharing!
Just beautiful, especially that fireplace and the chippy iron bed!
Great inspiration!
I totally agree, Jennifer. It is hard to narrow down your favorite style with so much inspiration out there. I think we might have a very similar style. Love the soft colors.
Jennifer–Great post! So true! I am obviously not fickle because I immediately fall in love with just about everything I see! Based on that, my style is Modern Eclectic Cottage Industrial Farmhouse! (MECIF for short!) Haha
Just as you have done–When I find myself inspired by so many great spaces, identify 1 or 2 things that really speak to me and translate it to work in my space.
Overall I will go with Eclectic Farmhouse
This could be my post too. Love the inspiration pictures…especially those yellow doors although I don’t know if I am brave enough to try those inside the house. I did paint our front door yellow and left it that way for a couple of weeks but with the flower post being bright blue it looked like I had a daycare (especially with all of the kids in my front yard every day) so I changed it to red and with our white house and black shutters find it more appealing to my eye (also painted our pots black). Thank you for the Birthday wishes you left for me when I was gone! Have a great week!

I understand your confusion. I swing in every style direction often. At the moment I love everything of Nordic French style. Follow your truth and you won’t get lost. I once read in a decor magazine, ” Always buy only what you love.” Hugs…
Oh so much to love here!
Great inspiration, thanks!
Hi Jennifer,
I am so with you! There is so much inspiration in blog land, that I sometimes have a hard time deciding on what exact style I really want!
Love the photos above, I see a lot in those that I would love for my own home.
Love your blog!!!
Hope you have a lovely night.
Sincerely,
Melinda
Ahhh it is tough. Funny because today on facebook Country living asked what people thought about their edition. I was pleasantly surprised to see the mixed reviews. I can’t do these white rooms with my family and our life style. I like them in a mag, but for me they need to stay there. I do love those yellow doors.
Love those yellow doors. Your style is bright and clean – love it.

I am right there with you girl! Too much inspiration not enough house to do them all! Loved the post.
love love love all these images!!
I also love many styles that it gets confusing. All of the inspiration photos are right up my alley. Hugs, Sherry
Yellow doors, Swedish interiors, French Country – all beautiful. Very pretty blog. Thanks for sharing!

I found this blog very interesting to read and also I liked all the pictures of the interior decoration. I love the country farmhouse type and also I like the Victorian models. They make the house look brighter and also when they decorated with some antique objects they look fabulous. Anyways, thank you for sharing these pictures with us and keep sharing some new models with us.

funny you posted this. i was just chatting with someone last night about “what is my style” i wish i knew what to define my style as, but i just seem to bring home what i love & it seems to all go together. (well, at least i think it does…) ha xoox
Loved these photos! I always, always love that touch of blue.

I had to do a similar exercise when deciding on style and design for my kitchen. I liked a LOT of things, and many of the kitchens in my inspiration files were white, but I knew white wasn’t ‘me.’ So I had to figure out what else about the kitchens spoke to me and how I could get the same feel with wood and other colors instead of all white cabinets. Seems like you’re honing in on your style very well. I don’t bother trying to name mine any more. 😉
All of this inspiration makes my heart beat faster! Thank you for sharing your lovely post at Potpourri Friday!
You have some great inspiration photos! I look around for bits and pieces from pictures and see how I can apply them to my situation. That’s the fun part to me!
Love all your inspirations~ I love so many styles and designs too- sometimes it can be hard to put yourself into just one category! Thanks for linking up! 🙂
Since I started pinning on Pinterest I’ve seen my own style emerge & it’s very similar to yours. I’m 59 years old & just now defining my style after years of *inheritance style*. In other words, we lived with what we were given or inherited. If I’d had blogging back in the days when we bought this house, life would have been so much better!
All of the styles are lovely!
this post is filled with inspiration. I love it all but those yellow doors…. swoon, those are my favorite! Thank you for your bloggy friendship and for participating in the Thursday Favorite Things blog hop linky Party xo
love the 1st picture and the yellow doors. Great post!
So many gorgeous rooms I love them all the last room the bedroom is my favorite though.
I can totally relate.
Thanks so much for linking up to the challenge!

I am way behind on your blog and playing catchup today! I can SO relate to wondering what style you are or you want. The minute I think I know what style or colors then i see something else that throws it all askew. I guess we evolve and change over time just like the decorating styles. I like your cottage farmhouse style too….sounds good!
