Charming Rustic Cottage Style ~ Rooms for Rent
Not too long ago I had the great pleasure of being introduced (online) to Bre at Rooms for Rent, who is highly talented when it comes to creating a charming home! Omigoodness, I love every square inch of her rustic, cottage style home and not only that, but she has a sweet, genuine soul as well. I could go on … but I know you’re just as anxious as me to get this tour started! You’re gonna love it!
When you walk through the front door of Bre’s home, you enter the kitchen. First, let me say that I love the unconventional layout of her home’s floor plan. It’s part of what draws me to older homes. We once lived in a new house in a new subdivision and most of the houses looked the same when you stepped inside.
When you step into Bre’s pretty kitchen, it’s a taste of what’s to come! I love white kitchens … and Bre has paired hers beautifully with the earthy tones of the counter tops that add warmth to the space.
On one end of the kitchen is this beautifully charming plate rack. I’ve admired these for years. The Bakery sign is an added bonus while the cutting board and straw mat repeat the color of the sign.
At the other end of the kitchen is a chalkboard wall in soft gray.
Let’s go through the door to the dining room …
Lots of texture balanced by cool colors make Bre’s dining room a breath of fresh air. The rustic, wooden farm table flanked by wicker chairs with soft textiles invites you to sit and stay awhile. Gray walls make the white trim pop, while the stone hearth at right provides additional interest. Did you notice the striped wall to the left? A touch of the unexpected which you know I love!
Plates on the wall and white pitchers add a cottage vibe. Next to the dining room is her living room …
The living room is the perfect blend of cottage charm and rusticity. Slipcovered furniture is a staple of cottage style and the stripes on the chair, rug, and pillows provide an element of fun. The coffee table chest echoes the warmth of the rich, wood floor.
Soft fabrics mix with textural elements throughout the room. I love the contrast of white with dark accents. Bre and I both share a love of white. I’m often surprised when people say white isn’t a color … it’s actually the reflection of all colors, which is what I think makes it so pretty and versatile. In color psychology, white is the color of new beginnings.
Moving on … remember the stripes in the dining room? They’re repeated here in the downstairs bathroom. How cute is this? I love how Bre repeats decorating elements from room to room, creating a rhythmic flow through her rustic cottage style house.
Isn’t this mud room darling? Bre made the space seem larger by adding white bead board which bounces around the light streaming through the door’s window. A cafe valance in playful green adds a touch of charm.
Architectural elements continue in the master bedroom with board and batten walls. Chevron pillows, an oversized star, and round mirror add geometric appeal and lend a contemporary flair.
Outside, Bre enjoys this charming porch. I love the row of big windows that let the sun stream into her rustic cottage style home. She’s lived here for a few years and has made some amazing transformations. Be sure to visit her at Rooms for Rent to see plenty of before-and-afters. I guarantee you’ll enjoy seeing the love she’s woven throughout her charming home!

I do love Bre’s cute home. She is certainly getting around. 🙂
Love the grey color Bre has used. You always think of chalkboard paint as being black but I love seeing it in grey in her kitchen. Love the plate rack and Bakery sign, too!
Great choice Jennifer. Bre’s home is so gorgeous. I love the grey chalk board wall in the kitchen. The built in plate rack is awesome. I have not met Bre in blogland so I am hoping over to see her blog now. Thanks for the introduction.

Loved seeing the gray chalkboard paint, I knew there were different colors to chose from but have only seen the black done.
Bre has a beautiful home and the use of stripes in her livingroom is so nice!
Such a gorgeous and inviting home!

I’ve recently discovered Rooms For Rent, also, and love Bre’s style. Thanks for the great tour, Jennifer!
I read her blog on a regular basis and just love her gorgeous style! She is so talented!
So pretty! I love her style! Definitely heading over to visit!
Thank you Jennifer. Showing these lovely homes ( very much including your own!!) have been giving me great ideas for my own. Of course it is driving my husband nuts lol. I am sure he will recover once the dust clears.
What a fresh and charming space! It feels like a retreat without being too stuffy. Love it!

I just found Bre’s blog last week so I was really happy to see this feature! In one word…Beautiful! I am loving the horizontal stripes…may do this in one of my baths.
Thanks, Jennifer!
XO,
Jane
A whole lot of charm going on here and Bre did a beautiful job creating this masterpiece of hers. I never saw an older home I didn’t love since having grown up in one circa 1732 and then restoring one circa 1756. I picked up a few great ideas here, so thank you for the tour!
