An Enchanting Life in a Breathtaking French Country Cottage
Nestled in the heart of the countryside, this charming French cottage is the perfect blend of rustic elegance and timeless beauty. With its stone faรงade, romantic shutters, and lush gardens, it feels like a storybook retreat. Inside, warm wooden beams, soft linen fabrics, and sunlit rooms create an inviting and tranquil atmosphere.
Let’s start with the light and airy living room above that exudes an organic vibe through natural fabrics, stone crocks, wood furniture, and decorations from Mother Nature herself. A sense of peace is emphasized with a portion of the serenity prayer painted on the staircase wall.

The living room opens up to the kitchen, creating a wonderful, open space that still feels warm and cozy despite its size. A gorgeous chandelier illuminates the living room at night.

While some people might like a more modern kitchen, I prefer this home’s kitchen which is also known as an “unfitted kitchen.” An unfitted kitchen doesn’t have all matching cabinets and generally uses standalone pieces. I consider my own kitchen to be unfitted even though it does have a few built-in cabinets. I love the pairing of gray and mustard in the room, which is a popular color palette in a French country home.
Remember the movie, Under the Tuscan Sun? Frances, the main character, renovates an Italian villa. I’ve always thought how wonderful it would be to live in another country in a home that’s hundreds of years old. That’s what this French country cottage reminds me of. It transports me to another world, a dreamy fantasy of sorts.

On the opposite side of the spacious living room is the dining area with an identical chandelier as seen in the living room. Large windows allow natural light to flow through the home.
ย A light green buffet on the far side of the dining table lends a soft pop of color.
Floor to ceiling linen curtains add softness to the beautiful interiors with their warm, creamy walls.
I’m intrigued with the large vases on the side table. I wonder what they’re made out of? There’s so much organic texture to enjoy, including the rustic ceiling beams the the plastered walls.
More pottery lines the shelves of the cabinet on the far wall. Views of the outdoors can be seen from every angle of the living room.
Upstairs, painted paneling coats the vaulted ceiling while a boho chic chandelier takes center stage in the middle of the bedroom. Read a book in bed or in the comfy lounge chair in the corner.
A soft blue paint colors the walls of the large bathroom with vintage sconces flanking a wooden mirror. The large vanity offers the convenience of counter top space for toiletries.
A linen roll shade at the window lends privacy while soaking in the claw foot tub.
A large circular window crowns the walk-in shower.
Outside, a patio provides space for cozy alresco dining. Pale blue doors and trim pair beautifully with the soft cream exterior of the French country cottage.
The cozy home has oodles of charming details like wooden plantation shutters, painted bead board wainscoting, and a cute side chair with a linen cushion.
A hallway is decorated with wire hearts and circles hung with pale yellow ribbon.
I hope you enjoyed this cozy tour of a gorgeous French country cottage.

A simple, cool vibe throughout this home. Cool as in a great place on a hot summer day to leave the doors and windows open and listen to nature. I’d like to make some of those wire hearts! What an idea that probably doesn’t cost a lot but gives some really good texture without over doing the decor for the wall.
Lovely cottage.
Loved that kitchen, what a lovely place to live.
I’m with you. I love the kitchen in this home. The unmatched cupboard pieces makes it look lived in and acquired over time. Such a beautiful space. Makes me want to give my kitchen a new look. Thanks for hosting Jennifer!
I just loved that movie and that Villa that she bought. I can totally see myself doing that in a small countryside town. This pretty home draws me in because itโs relaxed and lived in.
I didn’t know there was a term for “unfitted kitchen.” I also have that style, somewhat, and absolutely love it. It looks lived in, comfortable and like it’s been there a long time. Priceless. I also adored that movie and what in the world could be more fun than taking an old European home and bringing it back to life like that. I was blessed to have a huge bathroom once, with a lounge chair and it was so luxurious. Bathing and then curling up in a comfy chair right there to read a book or doze. What a fun home this was to tour with you, Jennifer. Thanks.
So gorgeous! Thank you for sharing! I too love the look of an unfitted kitchen, and I love the idea of staying in a home in Italy or France, etc. They seem so relaxed!
The large vases on the side table look like garlic bulbs.
The kitchen is charming. I can see myself enjoying time with my granddaughters baking in the kitchen with flour on their wee noses. ๐ฅฐ
I love the curtains on the lower cabinets.
Thanks for sharing such a sweet home.
This was lovely- but I’m 74 and remember when French Country was rich reds, blues and golden yellows, with roosters everywhere! I’d love to see a home decorated in that.
