Family Room Clock Makeover

I love clocks. The bigger, the better. About a year ago I found a large wall clock on sale (half price) at The Little Traveler. The finish was a little too dark for my taste so I lightened it up with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.

This is what the clock looks like today.
This is what it looked like when I brought it home from The Little Traveler.
Nothing wrong with the color … I simply decided I wanted a lighter shade.
I’m going for a softer palette in the family room, so I think the lighter finish fits better.

I brought in another bamboo floor mat for this room.
They wear extremely well, which is great if you have pets or small children.
But I digress …
Back to the clock. I brushed on a coat of Paris Gray Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.
After it dried I used a dry brush and applied Old White (also ASCP).
Once the paint dried, I applied clear wax all over.
I followed up with touches of dark wax for a more distressed look.
The entire process took less than 3 hours, and that includes drying time.
See that cabinet in the corner? That’s my next ASCP makeover.
I’ll be using Pure White and adding some appliques.
I hope to get it done this weekend. Time will tell!

  1. Love, love, love it! It’s so much better in white! I also love the mats, wherever did you get them? I’ve been thinking about changing over from oriental rugs (need to be replaced soon) to some sort of natural floor covering, bamboo, sisal, etc. Yours are gorgeous.
