For the Birds Spring Mantel

Spring weather beckons all us Midwesterners to come outside and shake off the cabin fever, which is exactly what hubby and I did today. When I got home from work we went for a walk and it was soooooo nice to see the buds on the trees and the first robins of the season! It’s always a special day when you see the first robins back in town … I always look forward to it. So when fellow blogger Melissa asked me to join a spring mantel party, I knew mine would be about the beautiful birds! (Links to more mantels at the end of this post!)

Bird Themed Spring MantelI kept my mantel simple so that the colors of the birds would stand out.

You may remember that I swap out posters with the seasons.

Bird Nest in an Enamel BowlI found these adorable enamel bowls at the flea market and turned them into nests.

Spring Vignette with Birds and NestsHubby unknowingly helped decorate. He was picking up around the house and stuck a stray feather into my tiny bottle. I liked the way it looked … big feather in a little bottle … and decided to include it in my “for the birds” spring mantel.

Spring Bird MantelOn either side of my vintage bird poster are miniature egg and feather prints.

Feather ArtworkI layered the feather and egg pictures atop sheet music.

Blue Jay on a Spring MantelWe didn’t see any blue jays on our walk tonight, but we’ll be seeing them soon.

Bird Themed Spring MantelWe did see tiny sparrows though, flitting from branch to branch.

Plenty of birds were singing in the fresh spring air.

Spring Mantel with Eggs and Vintage BottleOf course, you can’t celebrate spring without eggs. Eggs represent life to come!

Bird Poster on my Spring MantelI love all the colors in my bird poster!

It just sings spring!!

For the Birds Spring MantelThe weather is gonna stay decent through the weekend so more of the tree buds will start popping. Happily, the daffodils have started poking up through the dirt. I can’t wait!! I love the way the earth smells as it awakens once again. What’s your favorite part of spring?
