Friday Finds #18: Fall Goodness

friday finds October 2, 2020

Almost overnight our daytime temperatures here in Illinois plummeted from 80 degrees to 60 degrees. Fall is definitely in the air. Shorter, cooler days provide more time for reading and finding interesting things. I’ve got a few Friday Finds that I think you’ll really enjoy!

Autumn bouquet in wooden box, flowers vase on shabby rustic stool.

This week involved fall gardening and cooking. Annuals that were looking faded and droopy were removed and color was added with beautiful fall mums (huge ones for only $11 each!). I don’t bother to plant them in the ground anymore. I tuck them in baskets or old stone crocks.

In addition, I picked up quite a few pumpkins in a range of colors and sizes and nestled them together here and there in the landscape. This weekend I’ll probably add a few Halloween decorations for the neighborhood kiddos to enjoy. They’re constantly running past our house on the way to the playground that’s kitty-corner from our yard. I’ve always loved the sound of children playing.

One pumpkin was a sugar pumpkin so I cut it open, removed the guts, and cooked it in the oven. I used its pulp to make Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Muffins. I also roasted the seeds. When I was done with that, I made a big batch of spicy vegetarian chili. So good!

This Week’s Friday Finds:

In case you’re wondering what’s trending in fall and winter decor, here’s a good list from Daily Dream Decor.

My daughter sent me this adorable Maine vacation rental that has me wanting to pack my bags and fly out east.

Becki Owens shared 10 kitchens that are richer in tone than what you’re used to seeing. I especially love the last one in her line-up!

Looking for budget friendly fall decor? My friend Kristen at Ella Claire shares some great ideas for sprucing up your home for the season.

If you’re like me, fall and winter means time for soup! It’s such a great way to get servings of vegetables into your diet. Here’s a round-up of 27 vegetable soups for you to try.

Come back tomorrow for Cozy Living Saturday which is held the first Saturday of each month and includes cozy ideas from me and a few blogging friends!
