Friday Finds #33: Islands and Socks

Are you beginning to wonder if we’ll ever have an uneventful, boring week in the near future? 2020 certainly seems to be spilling over into 2021. It’s hard not to turn on the news but when I do, I find myself wanting to escape to a tropical island somewhere. Anyone with me? It seems like forever ago since I went to Cozumel with my daughters.

Okay, so enough about escaping reality. LOL. I’m trying to remind myself that everyone is stressed out these days with the virus and our nation’s political and social problems. And with that reminder I try to think of small ways I can bring joy to someone else. That’s not always easy to do when you’re struggling yourself.

Sometimes just a kind word or sincere compliment is all it takes to brighten someone’s day. Or maybe cooking your family’s favorite meal or baking cookies, just because. Or sending a gift of Bombas socks to someone, which is my new go-to gift to mail to someone. They’re super comfy and for every pair you buy, a pair is donated. And no, I wasn’t paid to say this about the socks. I just really like them. Try the gripper socks if you have hardwood floors.

Before I share my Friday Finds for the week – what are some ways you’re coping with the virus and political unrest? I’d love to hear your inspiration!

This Week’s Friday Finds:

If you love fresh herbs and use them year-round when cooking, you’ll enjoy these easy tips for making herbs last longer.

See how to creatively use a ladder in your home decor. I think I’m most impressed by the one that keeps kids’ shoes organized. So cute!

Thinking of a kitchen update? Check out these 11 kitchen trends for 2021.

I just purchased some Pottery Barn candleholders (currently on sale!) but I also like this cute DIY wooden candle holder. I may have to try making one.

Now is a great time to think about your home’s curb appeal factor this spring and summer. Check out these beauties!

  1. Thank you. lots to see and get ideas from. Loved the ladder ideas and herbs, kitchens, pinned some and home colors.

  2. I’m ready for a trip too!! We actually have a cruise booked that takes us to Italy in July but I bet it’s cancelled. I’ve never been and was looking so forward to seeing what all the chatter is about. Soon things will be less frantic in the world. I thought maybe I’d learn something new like sign language or calligraphy from an online class. Planning my garden for spring always makes me happy.
The new kitchen trends are always fun to see. I enjoyed the ladders. How creative some are…shoes?…great idea! Take care Jennifer, I too try to avoid too much news. It’s like a horror suspense show and you just have to see how it ends..Lol!! All will ok I’m sure though so I’ll try to reach for a good book rather than the remote:0)

  3. That’s so funny that you say that about going to a tropical island! I have been saying that since COVID started- I just want to get a one way ticket and go to a tropical island. I still do! And last year, I got Bombas socks for my family for stocking stuffers- they are the best socks!
Anyway, I have been doing a lot of reading and walking to stay sane. My son and I worked on a little wood-working project and finished just yesterday. It’s hard though. I feel like I have no direction a lot of the time though, and very little control. When I walk, I look around and it seems like people are just in their own worlds, and no one really talks to each other anymore, and that makes me sad. I pray a lot and read the Bible too. I’m hoping for better days to come.
Thank you for all of your fun posts, they really do brighten my days!

  4. Hey!

I saw this title and thought you must be referring to Bermuda, my island home Jennifer.

An island famous for Bermuda shorts and of course the equally famous accompaniment ‘long socks’ if worn as formal wear. Yes its common attire for men at work and even for weddings.

We are open and Covid-safe, have an incredible testing regime for travelers to keep our guests and locals safe. Today (22 feb.21) we are at 10 current cases in a population of 62,000 and they are all travelers, residents returning to Bermuda and subject to various quarantine restrictions. We also have an enviable vaccination rate.

So, if you are looking for an ‘island’ with a ‘sock’ connection….. check out Bermuda!
