See Inside Interior Designer Sarah Richardson’s Home

If you love home decorating, you’ve probably encountered Canadian designer Sarah Richardson in a magazine, on HGTV. or in one of her many books. Her style is classic and timeless and appeals to a wide audience. I first saw Sarah Richardson’s home in Country Living magazine and immediately fell in love. I’m happy to share that house with you today!

The living room features a beamed, vaulted ceiling with a large rustic pendant light. Warm colors play against neutral tones to create a cozy vibe, with the help of a crackling fire. You’ll find an eclectic mix of furniture, from an elegant tufted chair to more contemporary sofas and end chairs. A fancy crest above the mantel adds a unique touch.

The dining room really caught my eye when I first viewed this Sarah Richardson’s house in Country Living magazine. I love the patterned wallpaper paired with white trim. The French style chandelier is amazing and the woven dining chairs look great with the wood table and Turkish rug.

The home’s warm color palette continues into the kitchen with an expansive, pale yellow kitchen island. Polka dot upholstered bar stools lend a bit of whimsy.

A second bedroom features a vintage metal bed with more patterns in warm tones. Note the variety of patterns – paisley, polka dots, quilt blocks, and soft vines – all paired with a pretty patterned rug. Sarah Richardson’s home proves that patterns and colors can be artfully mixed. Don’t be afraid to try it!

  1. OH, this is the farm house that she bought; she added on an addition, reconstructed and remodeled and decorated that country farmhouse; between her and Tommy. She sure does have great taste.
I love them old barn board that she had put on the beamed ceiling. Love the clawed bath tub as well.
I sure wouldn’t mind living in a house like that.

  2. I have been in love with Sarah Richardson’s designs since she was on HGTV several years ago. Her rooms are fun and fresh and it is what HGTV needs now, instead of twenty four hour Property Brothers and shows where everyone races around in challenges making lots of noise and no great design ideas. I love and miss Sarah. Thanks for reminding me of a more pleasant time.

  3. I always enjoyed Sarah Richardson’s television shows and love her style and ability to mix patterns. That dining room is going in my Decor file. Thanks!

  4. Sarah Richardson has been my favorite designer from the time she started on HGTV many many years ago. Her design style is timeless. Unfortunately the U S – HGTV hasn’t carried her show in years. The Canadian HGTV does. I watch her on her online site.

  5. I miss her show on HGTV. It would be nice to see her show again on HGTV. I get tired of seeing the same ole, same ole. HGTV doesn’t have the creativity they used to have. Real decorators with individuality.

  6. Love her designs. Classic yet fresh and fun. I agree with Nancy. HGTV needs to offer shows with designers like Sarah again. Thanks for reminding us of her. And that classic, curated colors will always be an enjoyable, appealing, appreciated and popular home environment.

  7. I watched Sarah all the time. I remember when she did this one loved it!! The only thing now is she does so much white and leans more to a modern touch. I liked it when she did more like this house!!

  8. I agree with these comments…she is a great designer and a master at sourcing unusual and fabulous pieces. I seldom watch Hgtv any more except for Home Town now and then. Most of the design is not that appealing any more. Such a nice home.

  9. I remember the episode when she did the dining room. I believe the red wallpaper was made with fabric. I don’t remember if it was backed with paper or done in some other way. One of my favorites.

  10. What a beautiful home and I mean ‘home’ not just a house. I have found inspiration for new cushions (pillows) for my lounge, so thank you Jennifer!

  11. I agree with so many of the comments. Started watching Sarah when she started on HGTV. I too love her more traditional projects. This one might be my favorite. Loved watching the process on this one and how it turned out. HGtV doesn’t do anything I like much anymore. Sarah is a real class act.
