My Inspirational Find

Last month a new Thrift Saver store moved in down the street from where I work. On occasion I spend my lunch hour there and have found my favorite section is the old books. For some reason, Thrift Saver seems to have far more old, valuable books than Goodwill. I don’t know why that is. Recently I found an old, leather bound Bible at Thrift Saver.

It’s worn … hopefully from someone pouring over the Scriptures in careful study.
I love old books with pages stained and torn from curious fingers.
I love their musty smell and the feel of the soft pages.
Small stars take up residence in each corner of the this Bible’s leather cover.
I found through research that the leather cover has yapped edges.
Yapped edges are when the cover extends around the sides of the book.
I’d never heard of yapped edges before. Why were books designed this way?
Was it to protect the precious pages filled with wisdom and knowledge?
This Bible was printed in 1888 and translated from the original tongues.
The pages are still intact and in decent shape.
This has now become the Bible I read, as opposed to my contemporary version.
“The grievous estate of the wicked.”  Who read these pages before me?
Beautiful maps are housed in the back.
I paid $5.99 for this Bible. It was one of the more expensive books at Thrift Saver.
When I got home I researched it and found it’s valued at about $50.
But in my opinion, this beautiful book is priceless.
