Stunning Modern Cabin Redefines Rustic Living with Better Design
Temperatures cooled down this weekend and made things feel like fall outside. I’m not ready to let go of summer by any means, but the cooler weather put me in a mood for some cozy vibes. So today I’m showcasing a wonderful modern cabin by Design Shop Interiors that embraces rusticity with sleek design.
The expansive window in the great room provides a view of the lake outside. Meanwhile, the interior is wrapped in wood planks original to this cozy and impressive home.

Another angle of the rustic great room reveals more of the lakeview past the built-in window seat. Soaring ceilings and large windows keep the paneled room from feeling too dark. Instead, it has a wonderful warmth to it.

A gorgeous, rustic stone fireplace takes center stage on the third wall of the family living space. Note the positioning of the stone as though the rocks sort of fell into place. A large stone serves as a visual mantel.

On the other side of the half wall behind the sofa is the kitchen and dining table. I love the windowpane fabric on the two accent chairs. What an inviting and comfortable room.

Terra cotta tiles line the floor of the kitchen and dining space. The large round table breaks up the straight lines of the great room. Woven dining chairs add texture.

The vaulted ceilings and wood-planked walls continue into the lakefront cabin’s bedrooms. Roman shades add softness at the windows. A wood-burning stove atop a tiled-section of floor provides opportunity to add toasty warmth on cool evenings.

A white Jenny Lind bed graces one of the cozy bedrooms in the modern cabin. Floral pillows mix with a plaid coverlet on the bed and framed nature scenes decorate the wall above the vintage wood dresser. It’s a pleasant combination.

A second bedroom features twin beds, also dressed in plaid coverlets with a striped rug underfoot.

A close-up view of the headboard reveals actual woodpecker holes!

Beautiful! It was very interesting to look into more projects by this design group and find out the home you featured is in my childhood/ teen years hometown of Grass Valley, CA! It’s a lovely place.
Beautiful fireplace. I love that some of the stones are stacked and others faced. My Dad would have appreciated this.
Although this home is not my usual style choice, it is exquisite! Amazingly decorated to be a beautiful space one could actually live in- not the staged look so many homes have now.
Just want to say that yours is a favorite site. Full of beauty and loaded with inspiration. I want to say thank you. Glad you are here. 😊
We live in Maricopa AZ and it’s HOT! However, our daughter lives in Pheonix and we are in our 80’s I’m 87 and my husband is 79. We’ve lived all over and the best was in Colorado, but we can’t do snow anymore. We are (well I am looking for) around a home a Tiny Home around 800 to 900 sq feet, no stairs. I don’t know what’s available in Sun City AZ but the cabin with the fireplace or woodstove is kind of what I am looking for however all the windows with 118 deg would not be fun. Do you have suggestions for me? I know the cabin look is not ARIZONA but I do not like the desert… I want plants and greens
