Unique and Vintage Railway Car: Best Home Renovation
I love when I stumble across a truly unique home and today is one of those days. Discover the fun and whimsy of a unique and vintage railway car photographed by Chris Snook. It has a quirky yet classy vibe and I think you’ll have fun with this tour.
The main living space in the railway-car-turned-home is decorated in a mid-century modern style with bright pops of color throughout. Note the slightly arched ceiling that reveals the carriage’s domed roof.
I love the simple lines and fun colors used throughout this cute railcar cottage. The wide-planked wood floors are a wonderful feature, too.
All of you vintage lovers will appreciate the pieces on display in the kitchen. Lots of bright colors to enjoy!
A collection of whimsical mugs is always a great addition to a kitchen – it’s an easy and inexpensive alternative to wall art. Plus it’s fun picking up new mugs here and there to add to your collection.
High windows in the railway car encourage plenty of natural light to flow into the dining nook.
There’s no shortage of architectural details in the vintage railway car. Did you notice the tall radiator to the right of the doorway below? I’ve never seen one like that. This place would make a fun place to stay for a vacation.
Retro wallpaper and vintage items create a fun, eclectic vibe throughout the railway car. The green and white paper along with the old school typewriter on the shelf call to mind the 1950s.
One of the bedrooms features a nautical theme and gives a better view of the domed ceiling.
A second bedroom enjoys a contemporary theme and reminds me of a room you’d see in a movie from the fifties or sixties – like Mad Men. This is such a fun space.
Even the bathroom gets an application of retro wallpaper.
I love the “DunRunnin'” sign outside the train car that signifies it’s officially in retirement.
Today’s renovated railcar tour proves how a little ingenuity and creativity can create an unexpected yet endearing home.

What a cool fun home to stay in. I could live there ! I love that it is so bright and cheery . Very unexpected .
When i go on my trips i always make sure there’s an old railway to ride, so this was so enjoyable, and i know next time i will be looking at them a little closer!
Really cute. I’ve wanted to remodel a caboose into a weekend home for years. Haven’t managed it yet but still hoping!
Jennifer,
Not too far from you , in Indianapolis IN is the Circle Center.
Great shopping, but they have old train cars in the hotel that are on old tracks and you can spend the night in one inside the hotel. There are several of them, really neat! Your room is actually an old train car!
Lovely and very interesting. I was surprised at how spacious it was and the colorful pieces were wonderful.
I love it. Someone did an excellent job with the whole project. It reminds me of my Barbie Dream House studio from 1963!
Painted the Rail Car Grey, it must have been expensive because the furnishing reflect it. Looks like an office waiting room.
No warmth or personality, not the feeling of wanting to kick your shoes off and stay awhile.
Sorry, can’t play along.
Take care

Very cute. Love the colors used to make things bright and cheerful. Love the front door and the nautical bedding in the one bedroom. Wondering where this is?
