The Amazing Impact of Painted Trim: Best Choices

Painted trim is one of the most versatile and impactful design elements in any home. Whether you’re aiming to create a bold statement, add subtle contrast, or maintain a cohesive color scheme, the right trim can elevate the overall look of your space.

A minty blue-green paint color beautifies the crown molding, window trim, wide baseboards, and fireplace mantel in an English style living room. The color makes the room look so fresh and pretty.

Gray and yellow is a classic color combination and it looks wonderful in this Victorian home entryway. Off-white walls allow the painted trim to take center stage in the space.

If you like painted trim but prefer a more subtle and subdued approach, choose a trim color that’s a few shades darker than your wall color. This trim is painted in Clay by Little Greene Paint Company.

Pretty sage green painted trim frames the windows in an enclosed porch dining area of an older home. Decorated in English country style, the light-filled room is a wonderful spot for morning coffee or afternoon tea.

This older Colonial home uses different color trim in each room of the house. The hallway features a soft blue-green hue while the home office sports a beautiful Williamsburg blue. The painted floor in the office is a wonderful touch, too. Who needs a rug with a floor like that?

I’ve been in the process of painting over all the white trim in my house. Although I think it’s pretty, like this vintage bathroom, white trim is hard to keep clean. So little by little, colors are covering up the white.

Pale green (Pea Green by Little Greene Paint Company) is pretty trimming built-in bookcases framing a doorway into a light and airy dining room. It shows that it’s okay to use different color trims in adjoining rooms.

An upstairs hallway gets updated with cream trim, maize-tinted walls, and a dark green-blue handrail. Natural wood horizontal planks line the bottom third of the walls. The look is captivating and unique.

Paint can emphasize details on the exterior of a home, too. Highlight windows, porches, and other trim work with paint in a contrasting color.

  1. Love the painted trim on baseboards, windows and doors. Along the ceiling trim, in my humble opinion, belongs to the ceiling and should be color of ceiling – otherwise the room looks framed.
