An English Working Farm Becomes the Ultimate Countryside Retreat

When you tour today’s featured home by Sims Hilditch of the UK, you might find yourself disbelieving that this was once an old working farm. Outbuildings were pieced together to create an amazingly beautiful countryside retreat with gorgeous details that make the home warm and inviting.

Rustic beams lend architectural appeal in the traditional family room decorated with rich texture and neutral tones. A mix of textures blend beautifully to create a cozy gathering space.

Amazing details are found throughout this countryside retreat, like built-in bookcases and high-end moldings. The furniture fits in perfectly and soft patterns like the curtain material provide a touch of softness and a playful pattern.

The kitchen is a mix of elegance and warmth, with a highly functionable layout with plenty of room for more than one chef at a time. A large window creates flow of natural light throughout.

A cozy butler’s pantry off the kitchen, with grass cloth wallpaper (which is currently becoming quite popular) leads into the home’s elegant formal dining room.

A crystal chandelier plays against the rustic ceiling beams in a pleasing way. Plaid curtains pair well with the floral-patterned dining chairs. A gilded mirror graces the fireplace mantel with a wood stove tucked inside. Holiday dinners in this space must be absolutely wonderful.

A pair of matching desks fill the office space in the countryside retreat. Shiplap on the vaulted ceiling adds detail and texture, with a simple pendant light suspended above the desks.

Here’s a clever idea for your bookcase!ย  Add faux book doors to create the illusion of a library while providing hidden storage.

Blue-gray walls greet you in the foyer of this beautiful countryside retreat. A unique mirror reflects the staircase while a comfy wing chair provides a place to sit and remove shoes.

Here’s another clever idea – built-in mail cubbies located in the entryway. I would love to have this in my home. No more mail piles here and there!

Whimsical fish wallpaper hugs the cozy powder room. A bathroom is a great place to add a bit of wallpaper. It instantly transforms the room.

A pretty writing desk in a corner of the bedroom can be used as a vanity. The chair and ottoman create a cozy reading corner. Note the slightly arched door leading to a balcony.

  1. Thanks for a wonderful tour of a beautiful home! I love the “faux book door” any detailed information on these gems? Thanks.

  2. Okay. Finally. This is my idea of perfect decor. All neutrals, even the wallpaper and plaid/floral draperies. I could live here without a doubt – calm and serene. I’m sure some will find it boring, but that is why there are millions of colors in the paint spectrum. Each to their own. Love love love this place.

  3. I like this place—every thing Especially the BOOK SHELVES storage.. Some imagination went with that. I also like wall paper, the fish are clever

  4. Simply gorgeous! Elegant yet comfy and serene. Love the creamy whites and blues and like everyone else, love the hidden โ€œbookโ€ storage idea.

  5. Beautiful home and so well done, but I couldn’t live without color. Except for the blue/gray in the foyer and the hint of lavender in the bedroom, it’s all just too neutral and a bit depressing for me.

  6. The wired-in sconces caught my eye immediately. Why can’t we do that in this country and get rid of the cord issue? I would love to have seen the before of this project. The after is beautiful.
