My Trip to Cozumel Mexico

I have to be honest … I wasn’t sure whether I would write this post about my trip to Cozumel. Don’t get me wrong, I had a great time! I just don’t want to be one of those people that shows photos of their vacation to anyone and everyone who will listen. But if a great great grandchild of mine someday looks me up to find out more info about one of their ancestors for a school project, maybe he or she will be interested to know that great great gramma went on a wild spree to Mexico with her daughters (well, maybe “wild” is stretching it just a bit).

It was good to get away. It wouldn’t have mattered to me where we went.

I was just happy to have uninterrupted time with my girls!

 

This is the view from our room. We stepped outside onto the patio and this is what we saw.

 

We stayed at Sunscape Sabor in Cozumel and I was glad the resort looked like villas instead of a big hotel. Plenty of garden areas were included all around. So pretty!

 

This is the larger pool at the resort. The white building is an outdoor dining seaside grill. Sunscape Sabor is an all-inclusive resort (my first time at an all-inclusive) and I was amazed at how good the food was in all of the restaurants. The Patio restaurant at the resort served some of the best food I’ve ever eaten.

 

Here’s more of the beach just steps away from our room.

 

You can always find a pelican or two.

 

They fly around  and then dive beak first into the water when they see a fish.

 

The white sandy beach wasn’t at all hot to walk on.

 

Bridget enjoyed doing yoga on the beach.

The water is crystal clear and the reefs are popular for snorkeling and scuba diving.

 

One morning we took the ferry over to the mainland to go see the ancient Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza. I took this photo of San Miguel as the ferry was leaving the dock. The boat was filled mostly with commuters going to work over in Playa del Carmen.

 

After getting off the boat, we had a little over a 2-hour drive to the ruins. The girls weren’t that crazy about the bus ride (even though it was air conditioned and we were served snacks) but I really enjoyed seeing the countryside of Mexico and am grateful we got to see the Mayan Ruins; the pyramid is one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

And those heads were placed inside this structure, with engravings of the skulls that were kept inside.

 

Here’s what’s left of the observatory. Apparently it takes about 3 days to see all of the ruins.

 

You can see in this photo that the side of the pyramid on the left has been carefully restored, while the side on the right has not. Our guide Sammy offered to take our picture together.

 

Not far from the ruins was the Ik-Kil Cenote where we went for a swim.

 

This stone staircase takes you all the way down to the Cenote.

 

The Mayans used to swim here believing the waters had healing powers.

Those are vines hanging down on the right.

 

I loved the ruins and seeing areas off the beaten path, but it was good to get back to the resort.

 

I will always treasure my trip to Cozumel with Stephanie and Bridget.

And yes, I would go back to Sunscape Sabor Resort.

 

The moon over the Caribbean Sea was magical.

It was hard to say goodbye to Cozumel!
