Christmas Village: Free Printable to Make Your Own

Christmas, crafts, holiday November 9, 2016

Are you ready for Christmas creativity overload? I sure hope so because I’m joining a slew of bloggers with free printables … all just for you! A special shout out to Kristen at Ella Claire for organizing this whirlwind event.  I always enjoy our printable hops because it’s fun to see what my blogging friends have created. I thought and thought about what to share and finally settled on a Christmas Village, with a free house pattern template for you to download. (This post contains affiliate links.)

Christmas Village. Make your own using decorative scrapbook paper, glitter, and a few Christmas embellishments.

I’ve always loved glitter houses. Ever since I was a little girl. Since they can sometimes be expensive, I made a budget-friendly version using a simple pattern. This is a fun project to do on your own or with the kids.

How to make a Christmas Village

To make your paper houses and Christmas Village, cut out the pattern and trace it onto solid-colored scrapbook paper, and then cut out the house. Fold on the lines and fold back the tabs, gluing them in place to make the house. Cut out the roof, fold in half, and glue it on top along the house tabs.

Next comes the fun part of decorating your Christmas Village houses. I dabbed a bit of Mod Podge in places and sprinkled on glitter, to give the look of snow on the house. I found miniature wreaths and hot-glued them into place.

Miniature pom-pom trim becomes an architectural detail at the house’s roof line.

Instead of cutting out windows (I used an exacto knife to carve them out) you can cut a doorway instead. Make it square, or arched like mine. I think I squealed with delight when I found the teeny-tiny sleds.

Use bottle brush trees to help create your Christmas Village. I set my scene on a white faux fur pelt, giving it the look of snow.

LED tea lights tucked inside create a cozy glow inside each paper house.

I fell in love with these adorable miniature snowmen that fit perfectly inside the doorway.

You can leave your houses plain, add a few miniature accents like I did, or get elaborate and draw or paint more details on each house. This was such a fun project and I thoroughly enjoyed creating my budget-friendly Christmas Village. These would look cute on a mantel. And any child would love to have a few in their room, using the tea lights as their night light for the holiday season.

    Hi Jennifer –

I love these mini paper houses. They are so cute. I think the pom-pom trimmed one is my favorite. The sprinkle of glitter…makes me smile. I am one that feels Christmas is not Christmas without a sprinkling of glitter about the house. 🙂

Your Christmas village is charming! I always love seeing these houses at Christmas and have wanted to make some, but it always seemed like too much work. And I adore your miniature pom pom garland along the roof line.

These little houses are adorable. This would be the perfect project to do with the kids or other family while watching a Christmas movie. Like gingerbread house decorating but without the calories! ha!
So many options on how to create your own village. Love it!

I totally love this post. For some reason I ordered paper houses yesterday. I love how you made them look. I am going to try and do the same thing. Where did you get all the minatures I have to have them. Keep up the great work.
