Handcrafted Note Cards: Make Your Own

I miss the art of letter writing. When I was little girl my grandmother and I would write letters to each other. Mimi lived in the country about an hour away and I always enjoyed finding a letter from her in the mailbox. We’d try to choose the prettiest stationery and surprise each other with our new writing paper or pretty note cards. To this day I still love the look and feel of printed paper, and I still enjoy giving people note cards with a personal message inside. I think the event becomes even more special with handcrafted note cards.

See how to make your own handcrafted note cards; you don’t have to be an artist or even particularly creative. You’ll be able to make pretty, personalized cards and envelopes and use them for a variety of purposes. Once you see how easy they are, you might even decide to make your own Christmas cards.

 

You only need a few supplies to make your cards and envelopes. I used plain brown cards and envelopes (any color will do), assorted paper cut outs, decorative scrapbook paper, glue and scissors.

 

Customize the envelopes by cutting pretty scrapbook paper to size and line the inside of the envelopes. Simply open the envelope and trace the shape onto scrapbook paper. Cut out the envelope shape slightly smaller than the shape you traced. You also want to make sure you cut the top a bit shorter so as not to cover the envelopes glue strip. You’ll want to be able to wet the strip so you can still glue the envelope shut.

 

Then tuck the decorative paper inside the envelope. No need to glue it in place, unless you want to. The paper lining should stay put.  Doesn’t the envelope look prettier this way than if it was plain brown?

 

Now it’s time to get creative and have some fun!  Arrange your paper cut outs on the front of the note card until you create a pleasing pattern. You’ll find coordinated paper cut outs in your local craft store, which makes it easy to pair them together. Sometimes they come as stickers, but if they don’t, simply glue them in place using a very thin layer of glue so it doesn’t ooze out when you press the paper cut out in place.

There’s really no end to what you can do with handcrafted note cards. People will enjoy the personal touch and effort you put into each and every card.
