Inside a Beautiful Post and Beam House: A Warm Welcome
A post and beam house has a way of blending craftsmanship with character, creating spaces that feel both grounded and a little bit rustic. Exposed timbers, warm finishes, and thoughtful architectural details by William Metcalf Interiors give today’s example a timeless appeal. Step inside and see how rustic structure and refined design come together to create a home that feels inviting, functional, and full of soul.
A soaring stone fireplace and exposed trusses give the living room dramatic lodge-like appeal. Wall-to-wall bookshelves and a rolling ladder make the room feel like such a cozy retreat for reading by the fire. In my opinion, this is the perfect room for the winter season.

Cozy armchairs and a small table sit before floor-to-ceiling windows, offering a quiet nook with views of the breathtaking landscape. The open layout blends cooking, relaxing, and enjoying nature into one harmonious space. I think I’d relax in one of those chairs with a glass of wine and watch while hubby makes dinner for me!

Built-in cabinetry, coat hooks, and a bench keep the mudroom organized, while the slate floor adds cool durability. A wooden narrow chest adds a bit of warmth – and note that even a snow shovel gets its own special spot in this post and beam house.

This is a lovely home with beautiful views, but my favorite room is the first one pictured. I love all of the beams and bookshelves and can well imagine myself in thatPaul space!

Hi Jennifer,
Your blog is attractive and a good read. What surprises me about the houses you feature is that the bathroom and toilet are in the same space. What is the toilet doing in the bathroom?
A toilet should be in its own separate space and unconnected to the bathroom.
Best regards.
