Stunning Southern Living: Popular Homes in Coastal Carolina
Nestled in the sun-kissed area of Lowcountry South Carolina, a collection of stunning Southern homes awaits—each brimming with charm, character, and timeless elegance. From wraparound porches to sweeping marsh views, these homes capture the heart and soul of Southern living. I think this collection is the last of my posts from my recent trip to the Beaufort area. I hope you enjoy!
Let’s start the exploration with the Airbnb where we stayed. Our rental unit was directly above a wonderful Italian restaurant, the Miramare Ristorante Italiano. The restaurant occupies the first floor of this building and our loft included the second and third floors on the left hand side. I loved sitting out on the balcony and reading my John Grisham novel, The Biloxi Boys.

Directly across the quiet tree-lined street were some stores and our favorite coffee shop, Mary Lou’s Table. One thing that always influences my choice of a vacation rental is the proximity to a custom coffee shop. Mary Lou’s Table is in the lower right section of the building. She moved to Beaufort from New Jersey.

This area is the center of the Habersham community, located just outside of Beaufort. A graveled parkway provides seating for southern living – conversation and enjoying the seaside breezes. People gathered here before or after dinner, as several restaurants lined the streets.

The “town” is just as pretty at night as it is during the day. You could smell the ocean and marsh breezes mixed with the gentle scent of pine trees and Spanish moss clinging to the live oaks. Lowcountry is simply magical any time of day.

Moving on to the residential areas, the homes are new and custom built, each one unique in its own way. Although some of the houses were similar, no two were exactly alike which makes for a diverse and interesting neighborhood.

Each morning of our trip started with a visit to the coffee shop followed by a walk along the idyllic streets, admiring the architecture and saying hello to residents. I found that many of them had retired to this location from the north. It’s easy to see why they would choose South Carolina for their forever home.

Some of these newer homes were constructed in classic plantation style with ample porches and larger footprints. The epitome of southern living at its finest.

I love the green wooden gate on this two-story charmer.

The neighborhood allows a mix of fences, which was nice to see. I’m sure they have regulations about the type and size of fence that can be installed.

You can see that each of these southern homes is unique in both its exterior and landscaping. I would love my final home to look like this one. Quaint and charming, this blue bungalow has just enough porch area to enjoy a little relaxation.

Of course, I love the color on this festive little house. Isn’t it cute?

Here’s a few more of the “smaller” southern homes in the community.

I found this metal sculpture in someone’s backyard. I love it!

Throughout the neighborhood, rhododendrons and other flowering shrubs were abundant.

We hope to go back to South Carolina next year, but we’ll see. A bigger priority is replacing our roof this summer which I’m not happy about but needs to be done!

Wonderful place to live. Southern home architecture is definitely my favorite style. Danielle
This area is amazing and love that houses are not cookie cutter. This reminds me of Savannah, Ga. with the tree’s.
Of course I enjoyed this. Looking at neighborhoods like this is what I really love doing. Thanks for these and have a great weekend.
I can see you living in that blue bungalow! BTW- in the deep South, “rhododendrons” are strictly called azaleas. haha
