Vintage Railway Car: Home Tour
Remember when I said I wanted to find some truly unique homes to feature here on the blog? Well, today is one of those days. I came across a vintage railway car that’s been turned into quirky, unique home.
Â
The main living space in the railway-car-turned-home is decorated in a mid-century modern style. Note the slightly arched ceiling that reveals the carriage’s domed roof.
Â
I love the simple lines and fun colors used throughout this cozy cute cottage.
Â
All of you vintage lovers will appreciate the pieces on display in the kitchen. Lots of bright colors to enjoy!
Â
Â
High windows in the railway car encourage plenty of natural light to flow into the dining nook.
Â
There’s no shortage of architectural details in the vintage railway car. It would make a fun place to stay for a vacation.
Â
Retro wallpaper and vintage items create a fun, eclectic vibe throughout the railway car.
Â
One of the bedrooms features a nautical theme and gives a better view of the domed ceiling.
Â
A second bedroom enjoys a contemporary theme and reminds me of a room you’d see in a movie from the fifties or sixties – like Mad Men.
Â
Even the bathroom gets a coat of retro wallpaper.
Â
I love the “DunRunnin'” sign outside the train car that signifies it’s officially in retirement.Â
Â
Today’s tour just goes to show how a little ingenuity and creativity can create an unexpected home.
There are several more photos of today’s railway car home photographed by Chris Snook over at Houzz.

When i go on my trips i always make sure there’s an old railway to ride, so this was so enjoyable, and i know next time i will be looking at them a little closer!
Really cute. I’ve wanted to remodel a caboose into a weekend home for years. Haven’t managed it yet but still hoping!
Jennifer,
Not too far from you , in Indianapolis IN is the Circle Center.
Great shopping, but they have old train cars in the hotel that are on old tracks and you can spend the night in one inside the hotel. There are several of them, really neat! Your room is actually an old train car!
Lovely and very interesting. I was surprised at how spacious it was and the colorful pieces were wonderful.
I love it. Someone did an excellent job with the whole project. It reminds me of my Barbie Dream House studio from 1963!
