Farmhouse style is still growing strong in popularity and doesn’t appear to be going away anytime soon. Which is good for me since I love the practicality and beauty of the style. There are many ways to add the farmhouse look to your home, but today I’m focusing on barn doors that I think you’ll love.
When I think of barn doors, the above is what I envision. A flat planked door on a roller that allows you to easily slide the door open and closed. After dinner has been made, you can slide the door shut so you don’t have to see the messy kitchen while eating.
A more modern barn door has windows at the top to allow more light to flow between these two rooms.
There are two pairs of barn doors in this living space. One set is painted cream, the other is painted red. Sliding barn doors are a great option for closet doors. They don’t swing out into the room … like my bedroom closet door that keeps banging into my upholstered chair every time I need to grab a fresh set of clothes. Oh! It just occurred to me that I have enough wall space to accommodate a rolling door for my closet!
This pair of barn doors do double duty. They open and close … and they serve as chalkboards for family messages or grocery lists.
A barn door is perfect for a kitchen pantry. Opening it wide allows you easy access to dishes and sundry items.
Keep in mind, a barn door doesn’t have to slide. When you don’t have enough wall for a rolling door, just use the barn door like a typical hinged door.

Can you find the barn door in this kitchen? It blends right in with the planked walls!
I love how this kitchen incorporates a chalkboard style door to hide items on shelves in the breakfast nook.
And finally, one of my favorite uses of barn doors is to hide a TV! Unfortunately I don’t have the wall space to do this in my own home, but I sure do love it!
So what about you? Are you a fan of barn doors and the farmhouse style?
