The Return of Rattan Furniture
Fashion and decorating trends always seem to repeat themselves – just like history. Lately I’ve noticed a lot more rattan furniture in my Instagram feed so I think it’s safe to say this decorating staple of the seventies is making a big comeback!
The return of rattan furniture isn’t relegated to the porch only. You’ll find its use in any room. I love this tropical room with rattan chairs for comfortable dining.

My daughter will likely get a few rattan pieces for her new home since she’s chosen to decorate in an eclectic boho chic theme. She just received word this week that their home loan application was approved and the closing date is April 3rd. I think a rattan rocker would be perfect for the boys’ room.

Another tropical style room enjoys a handsome pair of matching chairs with a matching table.
White rattan furniture is perfect for a sunroom, especially when it has a vintage vibe.

When I was in high school my mother let me redecorate my bedroom with a loft style bed that my dad installed. I wanted rattan furniture for the room since it was all the rage back then.
Now I’ve set my sights on getting a new side chair for next to the mantel and I’m leaning toward something in the rattan family.

I’d love to find something vintage. In the meantime, I’m going to the furniture store with my daughter this weekend to look at fabric for a sectional sofa she has her eye on.

Coincidentally I have TWO Pottery Barn large rattan chairs that two different neighbors were tossing on garbage day last summer. One is in the family room and the other in the living room. I think I’m going to sell the living room chair at my garage sale this year because it is large and has such an oak coloring, and not even sure I want to mess with spray painting it. Nevertheless, to read your news is good news to me! 😉 Excited for your daughter/family as I wondered how this was going for them. Looking forward to seeing how she decorates should she be willing to have you share the pictures!
I love rattan when it has a bohemian look, and I love wicker. I’m really happy they have made a comeback and are being used in all rooms of a home. They can be works of art.
You can find some good deals on Craigslist. A lot of people don’t know the difference between wicker and rattan so if you do a search, put the words “rattan, wicker, bamboo, cane” in.

Your daughter must be excited about the new house and picking out fabric. I could spend an entire day looking at fabric. Love it.
Everything comes back again. Rattan doesn’t go with my style but I have always liked it. Love the chair in the last photo.
Enjoy picking out fabric with her.

I love rattan furniture and in my first real grownup house back in the late 60s, I had rattan sofa and chairs with tropical covered cushions similar to one of the photos above. I always loved the look, but when children came along, more sturdy furniture took its place. I still have a rattan end table and cushioned chair in my bedroom, purchased probably 10 years ago, that only have had to survive dogs and cats, so I’ve never quite given up my love of the casual l feel of it.
I have seen wonderful vintage rattan at my fav consignment shop go out the door as soon as it hits the floor. Love it. My parents had a set of it and I never appreciated it until recently. Wish I had it!
So crazy that you talked about rattan today. I just decided last week, to begin looking for some furniture for our screened porch and I am leaning towards rattan or wicker!
Yeeeesss ! I love that french chair. I also like the rattan chairs in the sun room and the rocker.
Love rattan and of course old is good, would love to have one in my house. I have two on my screened in porch. Congratulations to your daughter on her house signing date.
I love rattan!!
I’ve always loved rattan furniture. I had two big chairs back in Greece that were in my living room. I may need to look for some here in the US. They add so much texture to a room.
I have always loved rattan and that last chair from The French Bedroom Company is exquisite.
I have always been drawn to rattan and wicker pieces so of course I’m glad to see it coming back. You showed so many great styles!
