Contemporary Country Kitchen with Clean Lines

kitchen ideas November 12, 2020

When most of us envision a country kitchen, we probably think of lots of pitchers, handmade pot holders, checked cafe curtains, and other cutesy stuff flanking counter tops and shelves. But today’s contemporary country kitchen is more streamlined while exuding a sense of warmth. Today’s kitchen tour is a perfect example of this refreshed, modern approach to country style.

Black and white come together, along with wood floors and ceiling beams, to create an inviting and functional kitchen with a large island and oversized stove and oven range.

If I ever live in a house with a roomy kitchen for a large cooking area like this, I’m going to have it. My current stove has four burners but it’s a real challenge to fit four saucepans or skillets at the same time. And who doesn’t want a double oven – especially when it comes time for holiday cooking?

Wooden door knobs and cabinet pulls have always been popular with fans of country style decorating, but this contemporary country kitchen uses brushed gold for a more modern look. At the same time, country touches like the sconce and hanging poster provide vintage appeal.

An expansive wine bar takes up one corner of the kitchen in black and gold. I like that the cabinet isn’t white – it keeps the space from feeling cold.

Farmhouse pendant lights float above the kitchen island between wooden ceiling beams. Touches of wood are present on the counters in the form of bread boards. A red Crueset casserole dish mimics the color of the stove knobs.

Hello Jennifer. Hello from Prince Edward Island, Canada! I just started following your blog, and am thoroughly enjoying it! I really enjoyed the kitchen you shared. The black glass cabinets have inspired me. It wouldn’t be too difficult to enclose the area above regular cabinets, and place the lights above. Suddenly you have high end cabinets! Thanks for sharing this!

I just love the school house pendant lights. I’ve been searching for quality lights like these. Would you be so kind to share where they could be found.
    Thank you,
    Caty
