Create a Cozy Reading Corner

Today it’s 80 degrees in Illinois. On Thursday and Friday the temps drop down to the 40s. This is fall weather in the Midwest. To be prepared for the temperature drop, I like to create a cozy reading corner in my house. Here’s a few ideas to help you create your own special place.

A cozy reading corner starts with a big comfy chair. I’ve always been fond of tufted furniture, and this chair looks like it’s ready to give you a big hug.

An ottoman is a must-have for propping up your feet. Choose one that matches your chair, or go eclectic and select an ottoman in a different style.

A den with shelves is the perfect spot for a cozy reading corner. Your books are at an easy reach and you can shut the doors if you want to be left alone.

Sometimes an unused space, like the landing at the foot of a staircase, provides a cozy spot for a pretty wing chair and table.

Be sure to add ample lighting if your cozy reading corner doesn’t receive a lot of natural light.

And of course, an end table is necessary for coffee or your beverage of choice while enjoying a good novel.

I’ve created a few cozy corners in my own home. In the entryway, a super comfy chair from Pier 1 fills the spot perfectly.

  2. This post makes me want to read and relax. Where did you purchase your tufted chair in your family room? I like the width and the style.

  3. Love all of these, but I think my favorite is the one from Moscow, with the fox art. Or maybe it is your sitting room? LOL. Here in CNY, we have had a wonderful week of perfect fall weather- the leaves are in their full glory. I live in a small city (under 9000) with plenty of small farms, parks with waterfalls and gorges, and scenic overlooks. I have been out for a long walk or drive through the countryside every day.

    1. Hi Susan, I like that one too! I’d love to have that fox print in my home. Sounds like you live in idyllic community! Our fall weather has been perfect, too. I’m glad you’re able to get out and enjoy the scenery!
