Create a Cozy Reading Corner

cozy living, home decor October 11, 2018

Today it’s 80 degrees in Illinois. On Thursday and Friday the temps drop down to the 40s. This is fall weather in the Midwest. To be prepared for the temperature drop, I like to create a cozy reading corner in my house. Here’s a few ideas to help you create your own special place.

A cozy reading corner starts with a big comfy chair. I’ve always been fond of tufted furniture, and this chair looks like it’s ready to give you a big hug.

An ottoman is a must-have for propping up your feet. Choose one that matches your chair, or go eclectic and select an ottoman in a different style.

A den with shelves is the perfect spot for a cozy reading corner. Your books are at an easy reach and you can shut the doors if you want to be left alone.

Sometimes an unused space, like the landing at the foot of a staircase, provides a cozy spot for a pretty wing chair and table.

Leather is a classic choice for a comfortable chair to plop yourself into.

Be sure to add ample lighting if your cozy reading corner doesn’t receive a lot of natural light.

And of course, an end table is necessary for coffee or your beverage of choice while enjoying a good novel.

Be forewarned. When you create a cozy reading corner in your home, someone or something is likely to enjoy your spot!

I’ve created a few cozy corners in my own home. In the entryway, a super comfy chair from Pier 1 fills the spot perfectly.

The sitting room has my favorite script chairs for reading and enjoying alone time.

But my favorite place is in my tufted chair in the family room complete with pretty pillows and a quilted lap throw.

This post makes me want to read and relax. Where did you purchase your tufted chair in your family room? I like the width and the style.

Love all of these! Although they are all very different spaces, each one has a certain appeal depending on mood and weather! Have a great one!
