A Beautiful and Modern Traditional Home in Toronto
Let’s take a trip to Canada today and visit a modern traditional Toronto home by rtg designs. When you think of modern style meeting traditional elements – you come up with “transitional” design. Today’s tour pulls it off beautifully!
An exposed brick wall (above) adds warmth to the home’s entry hall. The French door allows sunlight to pass into the hall when it’s closed.
The tiled floor in the front alcove makes muddy footprints easy to clean. You’ll often find a double door situation like this in northern climates. It provides extra protection against wintry winds. I love big glass in a front door. Although some people may find it provides little privacy, I like to see who’s on the other side before opening the door. This particular door has a shutter that can be pulled down for privacy or to keep strong sunlight out.
A cozy fireplace with marble surround warms the mostly white living room. And how adorable is the sheep painting? I can never pass up sheep – whether it’s a knick knack or piece of wall art.
The bookcases are decorated with vignettes of peaceful blue and green and hints of gold.
Step inside the kitchen of today’s modern traditional home tour and you’ll find rich, navy blue cabinetry with brushed gold hardware. The pairing of navy with gold is a rising trend in today’s kitchens.
What modern home would be complete without a pot filler over the stove? You see these a lot on HGTV shows.
The Toronto home comes complete with endearing nooks and crannies, too. It’s nice to see a bit of exposed brick in this corner.
An all-white bathroom has a softly patterned floor with a wonderful walk-in shower. Some day I’m going to have a shower like this.
An elegant, white claw foot tub takes center stage in a subway-tiled bathroom with a soft Roman shade at the window. You can let the shade down for privacy when bathing in the evening. I’m also a huge fan of the paneled door leading to the bathroom. Erin on Home Town recently showed how to create the look using a $25 hollow door. Did you see that episode?
You can see more of today’s modern traditional home by rtg designs over at Houzz. It has such fresh appeal, don’t you think?

I just watched Rock the Block on HGTV last night. The first episode, Allison and Mike won the kitchen competition and they so deserved it for that beautiful brick they did around the stove. My next house will have brick in the kitchen! Fun show to watch. In our first build we did a corner, deep bath tub with jets and I would not recommend that as as they are difficult to get in and out of….and we were much younger then. A self standing tub is the ticket plus easier cleaning. Thanks for the inspiration Jennifer! Snow and cold coming back in tonight but short lived thank goodness! My husband put out lawn fertilizer too early so here’s hoping we don’t loose the goodness of that….Indiana just may have early spring??? yes!!! Lol!!! probably not…May come on!
It does have fresh appeal. I love the exposed brick. I have been meaning to watch Home Town. My sister loves it. Have a great week, Jennifer.
Love when they use brick in kitchens, it makes a cozy area in a house.
So pretty, so clean!
Looks amazing. Traditional homes have always been my favourite.
