Tiny House Airbnb: The Birdhouse Cottage
When I go on vacation, an important part of the trip is the location and ambiance of the place where I stay. Appealing furnishings, clean and bright spaces, and pretty outdoor surroundings are at the top of my list. I scored the jackpot when I recently rented a tiny house Airbnb called “The Birdhouse.”
Steps from the gravel, circular driveway lead you down to the little cottage tucked on the side of a wooded ravine in New Buffalo, Michigan. The house is located in a quiet, residential area within walking distance to town and the beach.
Adirondack chairs face the covered firepit from the front deck. The entire tiny house Airbnb is surrounded by trees, providing peaceful seclusion and privacy.
The back of the cottage reveals the screened porch overlooking the wooded ravine with a tiny creek.
The living room is just to the right of the front door and features a vaulted, beamed ceiling which lends a sense of spaciousness to the little cottage. The furniture is comfortable and stylish.
To the right of the living room is the kitchen which makes great use of the small space. A skylight brightens the area while the tall ceiling makes the room feel bigger than it is.
The door to the right of the refrigerator leads to another part of the deck with a patio table and grill.
The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need to dine “at home” if you prefer not to eat at one of the many restaurants. I made one meal while my granddaughter Zoe and I were here. The grocery store was just a couple blocks away, which was convenient.
Here’s a view of the front door leading into The Birdhouse. It’s an open concept floor plan with plenty of windows to enjoy views of the trees outside.
This is the view from the kitchen. If you do decide to cook, you can still be with everyone else. The home is super clean which is really important to me. I stayed at an Airbnb last year and was disappointed when I opened the oven – which clearly hadn’t been cleaned. It turned me off to the whole house. LOL.
To the left of the kitchen is the bathroom with a pocket door, which helps to save space with the traffic flow of the home.
I love the floor tile in this small bathroom with a shower to the right. In fact, I remember seeing it in the kitchen of this charming South Carolina home that I featured previously. The shower floor slants downward to keep water from leaking into the rest of the room.
Off the living room are the two small bedrooms.
Furnishings are simple yet tasteful in the bedrooms, which is good due to their small size.
Zoe and I slept in this bedroom with two twin beds that are built into the room.
My favorite room in The Birdhouse is the screen porch just off the living room.
A string of Edison lights provides special ambiance at night. I sat out here every morning and evening and enjoyed watching the variety of birds at the feeders. And so now you know why the home is called The Birdhouse.
Skylights help keep the screened porch light and bright throughout the day. It was so peaceful out here. I would definitely book this charming cottage once again. I’d like to bring hubby here – I know he’d enjoy it.
You can learn more about The Birdhouse on Airbnb and book it for your own getaway! It was less than a 2-hour drive from my house outside of Chicago. You’ll find plenty to enjoy in New Buffalo, Michigan.

What a cute little dwelling. I love the kitchen in particular and that screened in porch in the trees must have been wonderful.
I’m with you on the cleanliness Jennifer. Your stay must have been so peaceful with that bird view inside that sweet enclosed porch. The homes you saw and posted yesterday all had such creative minds behind the designs. That boat! Out of the house?! Nobody would forget that house. Your walks looked so pleasant. I’d love the hear about town and what the eating and shopping were like. I’m not a beach person but love the views.
That is so adorable and cozy. I love that screened-in porch. Thanks for sharing, Jennifer.
a very modern rental. every thing is convenient except those attached to the wall beds.
What a great place to stay for a vacation, so cute and I like that it was so clean and clear of decorations. Sitting outside with nature is so peaceful.
