Charming Cottage Bungalow ~ The North End Loft
Of all the architectural styles known to man, the charming cottage bungalow is my all-time favorite! The first home I ever purchased was a cottage bungalow. You know, one of those Sears kit homes you bought out of a catalog. I remember walking in the front door of that darling house, seeing all the gorgeous wood trim and architectural details and exclaiming, “This is it!” It was listed for $61,000 and we got it for $59,000. It was the cutest house on the block and is worth about 4 times that amount today! So one day when I was surfing the blogosphere and landed on The North End Loft, I fell in love all over again with Laurel’s absolutely charming cottage bungalow! Today on Easter Sunday, I’m sharing her darling home with you to enjoy … the third one in my Charming Home Series.
Laurel’s cheery home greets with you a colorful front door and a cozy porch.
Simple and beautiful details populate Laurel’s charming cottage bungalow porch. Curvy wicker furniture, bouquets of flowers, and note the small shutter on the railing, echoing the warmth of the wood found on the window frame.
Are you ready to step inside and see all the charm and prettiness of Laurel’s home?
A touch of wicker is repeated in the dining space, paired beautifully with painted chairs. I love the way Laurel blends textures and colors, pulling together eclectic pieces that keep her rooms from becoming predictable. An elegant rug and classic pendant finish off the look. You can peek into the kitchen from here. Perfect!
Viewed from the kitchen, you’ll notice the architectural elements in this bungalow’s dining room. Board and batten siding that runs 3/4 of the way up the wall, and a charming little corner cabinet. A special touch is the farm animal prints peeking from behind the kitchen chandelier.
Beautiful colors populate Laurel’s charming cottage bungalow kitchen. Yellow bowls and colored glasses in the cabinet, with sunny lemons, ripe tomatoes, and green apples on the wooden countertop.
Laurel’s kitchen has a functional U-shape and I could easily see myself spending many hours in here cooking and baking. It’s such a cheerful space and I can only imagine great tasting food coming out of this charming kitchen! I just adore this space!
Just beyond the kitchen is the family room where you’ll find plenty of lush seating. Laurel adds a charming touch with plenty of pillows and film reels on the wall. Clearly, this is the space for watching movies and getting comfy at the end of the day!
Laurel is a lucky lady with her very own craft room! I would love to have a space like this in my own home. She softens the space with white skirting and flowers. Plenty of sunshine floods the room making it a happy space.
Laurel also has this very cool loft on the second floor of her home. You have to visit her home to truly appreciate the space and layout of her cozy and very cute cottage bungalow! I love the pretty bunting hanging above the trio of windows.
But so far, this is only part of the charm you’ll find at Laurel’s home. She’s an avid gardener and every bit of her outdoor living space is charming perfection!
I love this area of Laurel’s garden … neat and tidy with the added charm of lattice, a picket fence with gate, and an adorable potting bench. I only wish my garden looked half this good!
And how about Laurel’s adorable backyard shed? Could it get any cuter than this? I love the colors she chose. That door!! We need to paint our shed this year and Laurel’s color scheme is definitely one worth considering!
Finally, here’s Laurel’s porch all dressed up for 4th of July. I love her festive style! And do you see her furry friend behind the screen door? That’s Tucker! I can almost hear the slap of that screen door opening and closing on warm summer days!
I have to admit, writing this post and looking at Laurel’s charming cottage bungalow again has lifted my spirits. It’s always a joy and pleasure to visit her at The North End Loft. Give her a visit … you won’t be disappointed!

It’s been so much fun seeing my home through your eyes and reading your very kind comments, Jennifer. Thank you for featuring my little cottage in your wonderful new series!
I visit Laurel’s blog / wonderful older home…I think the older homes have the most charm : )
Charming, indeed! How very lovely Laurel’s home is and I love the outside, too. I could be quite comfortable on her porch. I love how she did her side yard ~ a pleasurable spot to be in, I’m sure. Happy Easter to both of you!

Jennifer, I’m enjoying your posts on all the beautiful houses. You’ve hit another home run (no pun intended) showcasing Laurel’s cozy bungalow. I love that you spotlight a variety of styles and I’m discovering some new to me bloggers. Please continue this feature with more lovely bloggers and their homes.

I have always like the sweet little bungalow style house. Grandpa lived in a bungalow and it was so compact and cheery and yet had a living room, a dining room, two bedrooms with a bath between, a sun porch, a back porch, and a kitchen – and an attic. Wonderful house. Thanks for sharing these photos. Don’t you love those wicker chairs! I just found you and am following now via Feedly.
I’ve been crushing on Laurel’s charming home for quite a while now! And Laurel is a sweetheart too!
Her home is adorable, I’ve always wanted to live in those type of houses! I love her shed and the banner, great ideas!
Love love love it all!
I am a follower of Laurel’s, besides being a great person she has such a charming home. Love her new kitchen and shed.

As beautiful as Laurie’s home is, she is even more beautiful, inside and out. I lived across the street for years and appreciate her as a neighbor and a friend, a neighbor who improves the neighborhood every day with her artistry.
I love everything about it! Thanks for the introduction to to The North End Loft!
Truly enjoyed the tour of Laurel’s home. I too purchased one of these Sears kit homes in the late 80s in Kirkwood MO because I loved it’s “bones” and just knew I could turn it into a cozy and inviting home. Before I was able to get most of the rehab completed I was transferred to Dallas. Therefore, for me it was such a special treat and so much fun to see what a great job Laurel with her little cottage as well as her yard, shed and gardens. .
I love Laurel’s beautiful home and style and I’m so happy that you showcased it here!! She is one of the kindest bloggers out there. She has basically become my blogging Mom. She is super supportive and amazing to many bloggers out there. Have a great day! ~ Jamie
The first thing I like about this place is THAT FRONT PORCH. It reminds me so much of my childhood, and so many wonderful times. BB back splash in the kitchen adds so much beauty. I would be sending lots of time in the garden area, it is so well kept. I wold enjoy a place like this one
