A New Hygge-Inspired Scandinavian Home in Minnesota Horse Country
Tucked among the rolling pastures and white-fenced lanes of Minnesota’s horse country, a new Scandinavian home by Emily Pueringer Design Studio offers a fresh take on country living. Designed with clean lines, natural materials, and a deep sense of calm, the house feels both modern and timeless. Photos by Paige Kendall.
This new construction home blends Scandinavian simplicity with old country charm. Clean lines and light wood tones are layered with soft and sophisticated finishes. The home is located in Minnesota horse country so a bit of a Ralph Lauren style is incorporated throughout the room.
A vintage Turkish rug lines the floor leading into the gorgeous kitchen with light birch wood cabinets and a two-sided stone fireplace which opens on the other side to the living room (above).
The chunky island was custom made. The counter tops are made of Verde Vivo quartzite.
Three windows over the apron sink allow plenty of natural light to flow into the cooking space of this serene Scandinavian home.
The dining table is Scandinavian modern style with unique carved detailing underneath the top. The buffet under the windows is another custom-designed piece of furniture for the home. The French doors look over the meadowy pasture and wetlands of the expansive property.
The powder room includes is warm and inviting with an apron-front sink in brown Emperador marble. The home is filled with the most amazing details, all high-end of course. For example, note the rope work chair rail on the wall leading into the powder room.
A cozy three-season porch is located off the family room. Natural finishes and neutral tones are used in this space for a warm and comforting vibe.
A round wood pedestal table creates space for intimate meals or playing board games.
This view from the screened porch reveals the size of the horse property.
The custom Scandinavian-style stair railings add a bold touch of character and stand out as one of the home’s most striking features. From this angle, you see a better view of the two-sided fireplace that separates the kitchen from the family room.
The master bedroom features a vaulted ceiling and another Turkish rug in a beautiful pattern. Wallpaper lines the wall behind the bed, proving that you don’t need to paper an entire room to add interest and a bit of color.
Plaid bedding, wooden country nightstands, and the William Morris wallpaper in the Willow Boughs pattern create a warm and inviting atmosphere in the room. I love the dome-shaped lamps.
A diamond patterned floor made of of 12-by-12-inch Carrara marble and limestone adds an elegant and colorful effect. Quartz countertops pair with the birch vanity to keep the clean and simple ambiance seen throughout the Scandinavian home.
You’ll find more William Morris wallpaper in the mudroom – this one in the Bird and Pomegranate pattern. Initially the homeowner didn’t want wallpaper but she couldn’t resist after the designer showed her the gorgeous classic style of papers from Morris & Co.
I hope you enjoyed today’s tour. You can see more photos of this beautiful Scandinavian home by Emily Pueringer Design Studio.

Interesting. A little too beige to suit me, which made the wallpaper a relief, but I liked the house and its details in general.
